Ports? Border? Terrorist Attacks?

It has been interesting sitting back and observing what has been going on in the political world without writing about it. It has also been hard, having my stress relief outlet taken away for what seemed like forever. But, I guess it's only been 10 days or so. Thanks to all who contributed while I was away, especially to Murph for working hard on an important piece. I will comment on that in a day or two. It's time that we begin preparing for the future. But, for now, I can't help myself.

Not much has changed. It seems that Boosh and the fools continued business as usual, and for the first time riled up the Republican robotic supporters in the process. Not only the base, but this time even those in office. They have begun to run from him like rats on a burning ship, but who could blame them? The only thing that a Boosh is good for now is raising a little money, and even that might not last much longer. One must wonder if it is worthwhile to have Boosh even raise money for those facing re-election, some don't even want him in their state.

Booshco also once again proved that they can do nothing but lie, shortly after bungling their way into another mess. First they say that Boosh didn't know of the UAE Port deal until he heard of the contraversy through the press. That didn't go over too well, kind of made people wonder if he had a grip on what was going on in his administration. Scottie-boy McClellan even said that this didn't rise to the level of even being "presidential," I believe. Sure. The "Prez" doesn't need to be bothered with something as simple as selling our ports to an Arab government. He's got a Civil War on his hands, after all. No time for a measly little port deal to be bothered with. Boosh was so out of touch that he immediately fired out the "veto" word. Oh my, that will stop them. But, it didn't.

So, they changed the story. A couple of days later McClellan says that Boosh actually heard about it a little over a week before the shit hit the fan. That shows that Boosh actually did have a clue, that he was on top of it after all. Of course he couldn't back off the veto threat, that would make him look weak. Knowing full well, of course, that any veto he offered would be overridden in less time than it took Apollo Ohno to win the gold medal in the 500 meter speed skating event. When it became obvious that this wasn't going to sell either, it became time to go to Plan C.

They then did what any good, lying, secretive administration would do, called their buddies and asked for help. Of course, the UAE were more than happy to accomodate. If this deal is legitimate, there is a lot of money to be made. If it's not, they could lose the avenue of allowing a few nasty weapons onto their ships. So, they are more than willing to ask us to delay the deal for 45 days so it could be properly reviewed, which, by the way, is what the law calls for. That should make this problem go away, but it won't. It won't because it doesn't address the issues that are the problem areas of this deal.

1) As of today Boosh has refused to acknowledge, that being that we are turning our ports over to a country, rather than a privately owned company from another country. Boosh hasn't accepted the fact that this really bothers people about this deal. Either he is the dumbest man on the face of the earth, or he thinks the American people are dumber than he is. The truth probably lies somewhere in between.

2) All this 45 day delay constitutes is a review by the same people who reviewed it in the first place. Sure, they will toss a couple of bones to Congress by giving them a little more information than they had before, but they in no way are willing to allow Congress to have what they want, which is the final say in whether or not this deal goes through. We were told that everyone who reviewed the deal from the beginning had no misgivings. Another lie. It turns out that the Coast Guard, the people ultimately responsible for checking the packages that come ashore, had some serious questions from the very beginning, and still do. They eventually agreed, but you can bet that there was some serious arm twisting that went on before they gave in. Meanwhile, back in Congress, this revelation has only made them madder, Bill Frist notwithstanding. Now that they know that they were lied to from the beginning, they are probably having flashbacks to when they agreed to let this madman invade Iraq. A couple of lies were tossed in there too, they recall.

The Democrats are having a great time sitting back and watching the Republicans fight this one out with their President, they see nothing but victory awaiting in the '06 elections. They had better not become too smug and take their eye off of the ball because this won't last forever. There are other issues that are a lot more important than this one, whether the average American realizes it or not. In the long run, it probably really doesn't matter who runs our ports. We obviously can't do it, so someone has to. When you are only inspecting 5% of the cargo that enters the country, you are sitting on a timebomb no matter who loads, unloads, or owns the ships. The fact that this has turned into a firestorm of contraversy is nothing more than a gift to the Democrats, albeit a rather fine gift. You couldn't ask for more if you are seeking to unseat a Republican in the next election, couldn't buy this kind of publicity, as they say.

For those who belive that 9/11 was simply a vehicle to get to Iraq, now is the perfect time for another "terrorist event." So get ready, folks, the next attack may be right around the corner. Maybe this time in middle America, just like Bin Laden threatened. Think about it. Republicans fighting Republicans, Boosh looking incompetent yet again. It might take a real distraction to bail him out of this one. Ever wonder why we don't pay more than lip service to our Southern Border? Hey, like with the Port deal, we need all the people we can find to blame for the next big one.

Cyclone Health Update

Hi guys. As you can see, I am alive but not too well. This has proven to be a bit more complicated than I thought. I get a severe headache when I am up for very long, so this will be short and sweet. I am still mostly forced to stay in a prone position except for short periods of time, so I cannot sit up at the computer long enough to do a post, or even answer much email. I do seem to get a bit better each day, so maybe by tonight I can post something.

Thank goodness for George Boosh, he has stumbled along admirably, even threatening the first veto of his and Cheney's co-presidency. So, when I return, I won't be without material to work from. I haven't really checked the mail, so I don't have a T-Shirt update as of now. Never fear, they will be done eventually. (Seems like I've said that before.)

Thanks to all who have kept things going, especially Murph for sending a post for you all to discuss. I have been unable to do more than glance at the comments, but I see that there have been many. Thank you for that. Maybe later today I can re-enter the fray, giving some more food for thought.

Now, I must lay down again. Thanks for all the good thoughts, I'll be back ASAP.

Reader Speaks Out: Psychology of Dissent

This is the first installment of a full post from a regular reader. I hope that during my absence these will continue to flow in. Hopefully this will motivate others to create their own full length post. I also hope that this will initiate some dialogue. The only changes that I made to it were cosmetic, nothing regarding substance. If you did not drop in this weekend and are confused by this, please read the previous two posts. They will explain what we are doing. Thanks to Murph for the contribution.

Psychology of Dissent

It is certain that some percentage of the American public is very unhappy with the current state of affairs in this country. It runs the full gamut, from rage to mild criticism. For those of us who lean into the spectrum of rage, or at least over the half way line, we have a problem. We become so concerned with naming the problem and bashing the perpetrators that we can become obsessed with that aspect of our discontent. This obsession can be called by an old name the, 'Aint It Awful' game, and often leads to the 'kick me' game.

Briefly, 'Ain't It Awful' means that you spend all your time bitching and complaining about something and offer no solutions. You never see another side of the criticism and never see the good parts of the situation. I know that I play this game a lot, and I really have to be conscious of it not becoming an obsession. When it becomes an obsession, it stops the critical thinking process and leads to 'kick me' in which you set yourself up for always being a victim. (By the way, these terms were part of the analysis of behavior from Transactional Analysis, which does a good job of defining behavior in general and specific terms) Despite any other criticism of this system, it does do a good job of identifying self destructive behavior.

The fact that the more liberal part of our society engages in 'Aint It Awful' today, has earned liberal thinking with the label of whiney, bitching wimps who can't recognize a good thing if they see it. It would be far more valuable to take the situation, examine it for faults, and begin formulating a cohesive line of thought for remedies. On this site, there seems to be at least a consensus of agreement that the current situation is very bad to critical. Ok, we all agree with that. Now what?

It is becoming alarmingly apparent that the more vocal dissent in the general population might be shut down by various means. Writers of some note have been harassed, put on no fly lists, had web site shut downs, and have suffered character assassination. It is probably going to get worse as the present structure loses traction nationally and internationally. That puts anyone that is strident about their dissent in danger of this type of harassment or maybe even worse. And indeed, such thinking and verbalization of dissent is going to be going against the social grain at this time. I suspect that Rep. Ron Paul is going to be even further marginalized for his speech that was posted on this web site. Maybe worse. This type of suppression has occurred with far more regularity than most people realize. With the present technology, anything other than face to face familiarity with people you believe to not be in on the oppression is pretty much the only non exposure way to go.

The point is, we can bitch and moan over all kinds of stuff and not draw too much attention, unless of course we really piss off someone with the ambition and power to shut us up. It gets rough when you get right down to the specifics, the groundwork of the problem and start advocating changes. Then, you do get the attention of the money and power, for sure. So, it is a matter of what price you are willing to pay to get something positive done. I am going to make the assumption that if all the readers of this blog site got together in one place and really worked on solutions to the problem that we might come up with something that was viable. If there are simply no acceptable solutions to the current situation, what changes would we want to make to the current structure after the collapse in an attempt to not have this situation happen again in the future? And, perhaps of more immediate concern, if the population die off is imminent, a bunch of us have a low probability of survival. How can that survival probability be raised and what are we going to do with that survival?

I am going to make another assumption. Most of the readers and contributors to this site would like to leave a legacy of something more than bare bones survival and a history of just bitching and complaining. It would sure seem to me that we should begin to address these issues in detail.

Let's make another assumption; that we are going to get through the next elections this year. Should the elections be ignored? Vote for the lesser of evils? Maybe vote for alternative party, namely the Libertarian as an example, in the hopes of making a temporary fix? If we assume that we aren't going to get through or even to the next elections, then this is a mute point.

Obviously, almost any idea concerning immediate and radical change, or anything that smacks of forceful change over the internet is going to be very dangerous to the person suggesting the change. We are living in times where the technology makes this so. In a nutshell, this government has us by the shorthairs. Until we have nothing left to lose, we have limited options if we want to avoid becoming martyrs.

Boosh on Energy? Whatever; Plus a Temporary Goodbye

Boosh is on another tour of the country. This time, touting his "new" energy plan that is going to save the world. Even gave this tour a name. He calls it, "Energy Week." Prediction. It will be at least as effective as "Social Security Quarter," "Medicare/Medicaid Month," and "War Years." Clearly, the last few names came solely from my head, Boosh did not have the foresight to name his other tours.
Think it might have something to do with the '06 elections? Guess what? It won't work.

"The best way to meet our growing energy needs is through technology. We will pursue promising technologies that will transform how we power our vehicles, businesses and homes--so we can reduce our nation's dependence on foreign sources of energy." Boosh said this yesterday during his radio address. Notice anything missing there? Like, the word OIL? The last time he commented about this subject was during his State of the Union address, and the Saudi Grand Poobah was not happy when Boosh stated that his goal is to reduce our dependence on "foreign oil." So, let's make the Saudi's happy while we play the smoke and mirrors game. This time we'll replace the word oil with "energy." Pure brilliance, if you are dealing with a bunch of 4 year olds. Otherwise, not too effective.

For our nation to seriously consider an alternative to foreign oil, we needed to start a hell of a long time ago. To believe otherwise is to put yourself in full denial mode, in the same la la land where most Americans already reside. Among Boosh's proposals is to expand research into smaller, longer lasting batteries for electric and hybrid cars. Haven't we been doing that for the last, say, 20 years or so? Trying to make a better battery? He also wants to re-start the "plug in" electric car program, one that was scuttled many years ago because Americans wouldn't want to pay $30,000 for something that they can drive only a couple hundred miles in and then have to plug it in the wall overnight. This is not back to the future, but back to the past.

Boosh has also just discovered solar panels, it appears. Novel idea, I had never heard of them. What exactly do they do now, create electricity through sunlight? (actually I helped a friend install some in the early 80's) He says we need to make more of them. We probably need to get people to purchase and use them too, but he didn't mention that. I doubt that it fits into the long range plans of the 1% of the richest in America that he saves meaningful tax cuts for. They might look ugly in gated communities. Actually, we should pour a bunch of money into solar panels made specifically for mobile homes and then give them away. It would make more sense in the long run. In fact, we could probably take 2 weeks worth of money spent in Iraq and offer free solar panels to every household in America. But, this isn't about sense anyway, is it?

Hydrogen fuel cells to power cars, another brilliant "new" idea. It does have a couple of problems, though. Most experts say that it will be 20-30 years before they are ready for use. On top of that, only the wealthy will be able to afford them when they become available.

His main objective, though, appears to be the development of new biofuels. Using everything from corn to wood chips, Boosh sees this as the fuel of the future. Funny, I thought we were already doing that, though on a limited basis.

During the State of the Union address, as I mentioned above, Boosh claimed that he wanted to replace three-fourths of our oil imports from the Middle East over the next 19 years by substituting gasoline with a renewable fuel source. This, despite the fact that his own advisors admit that the way the market is currently structured makes it impossible to single out specific countries or regions to purchase or not purchase oil from. It is, however, comforting to know that Boosh will have a hand in our energy policy for 16 years after he leaves office. All his other ideas have worked so well, I'm hoping that perhaps he can figure out a way to commit our Defense Department to some long range program before his term expires. Regardless of how or when his exit from office comes.

The bottom line is this. George W. Boosh has made and blown a fortune in the oil business. All of his friends and cohorts are in the oil business. Clearly his only international friends, can you say Saudi's, are wholly dependent on the sale of oil for their very existence. Boosh does not give a rat's ass about changing any American dependency on foreign oil, domestic oil, Texas oil, or any other kind of oil. In fact, the opposite is true. He hopes that we use more and more oil, damn the long term consequences. Why? Because he also doesn't give a rat's ass about me, you, or anybody else in this country, unless you vote for Republicans and donate money to be used to keep them in power. Even then, he only pretends to care. Boosh can't see past the next hour, much less 20 years down the road. This is nothing but an attempt to garner votes for the '06 elections, an act that is so transparent it is becoming tired.

So, take your dog and pony show on the road all you want, Georgie. And be sure to use all the oil you can while you do it. Exxon, BP and the others can use the money. Besides, it's much too late for us to switch to another form of energy before the economy goes kablooey. If you really gave a damn about the American people, you would be preparing them for how to find things to eat when the shit hits the fan, not where the oil, er, energy will come from. We will be out of money long before we are out of oil. On second thought, now that I remember the aftermath of Katrina, never mind. We'll figure out the food thing on our own.

Boosh quote of the Day:

"The goals for this country are peace in the world. And the goals for this country are a compassionate American for every single citizen. That compassion is found in the hearts and souls of the American citizens."

Note:

This is my last post until I somewhat recover from tomorrow's surgery. I hope that some of you will take me up on the offer I made yesterday, to create something I can post during my absence. If you missed it, read yesterday's post and it will explain what I am talking about. One thing I thought about this morning, for those of you who are located outside the US; I would love to see something from your perspective about what you think is going on in America these days. I believe that all of us could learn a lot from hearing about what you really think. I have an advantage in that many of you email me, so I know somewhat how we are viewed by people in various countries. Many others who read this site do not have any contacts overseas, and I'm sure they would appreciate hearing viewpoints from outside our borders. Last night I counted, and this site has been visited from people in 47 countries, plus 38 visits from the "unknown" countries, over the last 10,000 visits. The "unknowns" must be black sites I guess. I thought that we had identified all of the countries in the world, but, maybe not. So, I know you are out there and would appreciate hearing from you. Obviously, this is not to discourage US readers from sending me stuff as well. I hope that we can continue this on weekends after my return. I doubt that I will be able to do anything tomorrow, but hopefully on Tuesday I can post one of your articles. Nothing would make me happier, so email them to me if you wish. I will also answer personal emails as soon as I come out of the fog and can get up and move about.

Homeland Security? I Think Not; Plus A Thought

As his poll numbers continue to slide, George W. Boosh reminds us daily that he is a "wartime president" and that his duty is to "protect the American people." Protect the American people? With our porous borders, and his proposal for an illegal worker "amnesty program" or whatever he wants to call it today, how serious is he about this? Not very, apparently.

Our new method of Homeland Security includes the selling of six US ports to the United Arab Emirates. That's correct, selling our ports to an outfit that refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist and supports the Taliban in its bid to regain control of Afghanistan. Never mind that approximately 50% of the US population lives within 100 miles of these ports. The ports involved are; New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Baltimore, Miami and New Orleans.

A very interesting way to "protect the American people." By giving control of our most strategic ports to a bunch of Muslim Jihadists, with obvious ties to radical Islam. This decision was led by John Snow and a secret group of advisors, the same group that recommended not blocking China's attempt to purchase the oil giant Unocal. Not that the oil recommendation should be a tip off or anything, but it begs the question. What the hell is this administration thinking about?

We fight wars allegedly to "fight them over there instead of here." Yet, we plan to give up control of virtually every "by sea" entryway of importance to those who are essentially the enemy. Who is kidding who here? This decision has even awakened the slumbering Congress of the United States, who are literally begging Boosh to reconsider this action. So far, Boosh has ignored their pleas, and it appears to be a done deal.

While we claim that allowing Iran access to nuclear weapons is the worst possible scenario for our safety, at the same time we give those that hate us the most control of the easiest pathway into our country. Who needs nukes when you can ship any other weapon into the country with nary a gander by US authorities? Need a rocket propelled grenade? Just send it through Baltimore, and one of the various terrorists who we admit are already here can drive and pick it up. Shoulder fired missle? Head to Philadelphia. And on, and on.

While it has been clear for a long time that the "fight them there...." is pure bullshit, it is now obvious that Boosh has no intentions of masking his disdain for the American public at large any longer. Granted, the man is incompetent. Also not very smart. But at least in the past he has lamely attempted to hide it. No longer. Selling our ports to the enemy is in every way a declaration to the American people that they can go screw themselves, this is all about money. Our safety is clearly not even a passing thought, something that Boosh is all but admitting with this move. Unbelievable. All I can say is, "bring on the crash." It's the only thing that can save us.

A Thought for the Near Future

I have been thinking about what to do with this place while I am off during surgery and recovery. Through the comments and emails that I receive from all of you, it is obvious to me that many of you have some important things to say. And many can say it quite well, usually better than I can. So, here's my thought.

During my time off, anyone who wants to write something that they feel is important and timely, do so. Then email it to me. I'll go over what is sent and publish what I think is relevant and reasonably well written. I won't change anything other than obvious misspellings, as I am by no means an editor.(I think that was rather sternly pointed out to me a while back) I also feel that changing things might take away from what the author intended to convey. I would suggest the topic be related to ways to prepare for the future, but am open to anything. If this idea takes off and proves workable, we could continue it after my return for weekend posts. You would get full credit for it. You can even do it anonymously if you want to.

One obvious rule must be followed, though. Don't copy someone else's work, even if you say it is someone else's. I don't want a lawsuit on my hands, and copyright laws are quite complex. If you need to quote someone fine, but make sure that it is clear that it is a quote. But, don't copy an entire article and try to print it here, I won't do it. That takes permission, and I'm not going to seek permission from a bunch of people that I don't know. Plus, I want your ideas, not someone else's.

After Monday, I should be able to read some stuff and put one of your posts up I would think. It would help me out, give you all an opportunity to have your say, and keep the site going as I recover. Just look over what has been written here in the past and try to keep things at approximately the same length as my posts. I don't want to publish your first novel.

Just an idea, let me know what you all think.

Boosh quote for the Day:

The Rest of the Ron Paul Speech

I had a post ready for today, but an anonymous reader has pointed out that I did not post the entire speech by Ron Paul. This was a mistake on my part as I couldn't pull it up from any link that I could find. It changes somewhat, but I think that together it is an important thing to read. It all relates to our current situation, and my post can wait a day. This is the second part of his speech. Thanks to whoever pointed this error out to me.

As an aside, I will be having surgery on Monday. I hope to post something tomorrow and Sunday, then play it by ear for a few days after that. I'll get back as soon as I possibly can. I wouldn't mind some suggestions on where to go from here, on what you all would like to see in the near future on this site. I believe that the end is near and it is time to get to down to some serious planning on how to survive the crash. Many won't survive, that is simply a fact. It is also the plan.

You have proven more than capable of carrying on without me in the past, so I wouldn't expect it to be much different if I should be away for 4-5 days. If you would, think about it and fire some ideas my way. Either email me or post them, whatever you think is best. I will at the very least be able to read your comments and emails and respond to some of them, I would think, beginning Tuesday. (I hope?) For now, happy reading.

NEED FOR REFORM IN LIGHT OF LOBBYING SCANDAL

Mr. Speaker, I would like to now switch topics and address another subject, and this is regarding the need for reform in light of the recent lobbying scandal.

Mr. Speaker, the Abramoff scandal has been described as the biggest Washington scandal ever, bigger than Watergate, bigger than ABSCAM, bigger than Koreagate, bigger than the House banking scandal, bigger than Teapot Dome. Possibly so. It is certainly serious and significant.

It has prompted urgent proposals of suggested reforms to deal with the mess. If only we had more rules and regulations, more reporting requirements and stricter enforcement of laws, the American people will be assured we mean business. Ethics and character will return to the Halls of Congress. It is argued that new champions of reform should be elected to leadership positions to show how serious we are about dealing with the crisis of confidence generated by the Abramoff affair. Then all will be well.

But it is not so simple. Maybe what we have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg and the insidious crisis staring us in the face that we refuse to properly identify and deal with.

[Page: H322] It has been suggested we need to change course and correct the way Congress is run. A good idea, but if we merely tinker with current attitudes about what role the Federal Government ought to play in our lives, it won't do much to solve the ethics crisis.

True reform is impossible without addressing the immorality of wealth redistribution. Merely electing new leaders and writing more rules to regulate those who petition Congress will achieve nothing.

Could it be that we are all looking in the wrong places for our solution to a recurring, constant, and pervasive corruption in government? Perhaps some of us in Congress are mistaken about the true problem. Perhaps others deliberately distract us from exposing the truth about how miserably corrupt the budget process in Congress is.

Others simply are in a State of denial. But the denial will come to an end as the Abramoff scandal reveals more and more. It eventually will expose the scandal of the ages, how and to what degree the American people have become indebted by the totally irresponsible spending habits of the U.S. Congress as encouraged by successive administrations, condoned by our courts, and enjoyed by the recipients of the largesse.

This system of government is coming to an end, a fact that significantly contributes to the growing anxiety of most Americans, especially those who pay the bills and receive little in return from the corrupt system that has evolved over the decades.

Believe me, if everybody benefited equally, there would be scant outcry over a little bribery and influence peddling. As our country grows poorer and more indebted, fewer people benefit. The beneficiaries are not the hard-working, honest people who pay the taxes. The groups that master the system of lobbying and special interest legislation are the ones who truly benefit.

The steady erosion of real wealth in this country and the dependency on government generated by welfare-ism and warfare-ism presents itself as the crisis of the ages. Lobbying scandals and the need for new leadership are mere symptoms of a much, much deeper problem.

There are quite a few reasons a relatively free country allows itself to fall into such an ethical and financial mess. One major contributing factor for the past 100 years is our serious misunderstanding of the dangers of pure democracy.

The Founders detested democracy and avoided the use of the word in all the early documents. Today, most Americans accept without question a policy of sacrificing life, property and dollars to force democracy on a country 6,000 miles away. This tells us how little opposition there is to democracy. No one questions the principle that a majority electorate should be allowed to rule the country, dictate rights, and redistribute wealth. Our system of democracy has come to mean worshiping the notion that a majority vote for the distribution of government largesse, loot confiscated from the American people through an immoral tax system, is morally and constitutionally acceptable.

Under these circumstances, it is no wonder a system of runaway lobbying and special interests has developed. Add this to the military industrial complex that developed over the decades due to a foreign policy of perpetual war and foreign military intervention, and we shouldn't wonder why there is such a powerful motivation to learn the tricks of the lobbying trade and why former Members of Congress and their aides become such high-priced commodities.

Buying influence is much more lucrative than working and producing for a living. The trouble is in the process; the process invites moral corruption. The dollars involved grow larger and larger because of the deficit financing and inflation that pure democracy always generates.

Dealing with lobbying scandals while ignoring the scandal of unconstitutional runaway government will solve nothing. If people truly believe that reform is the solution through regulating lobbyists and increasing congressional reporting requirements, the real problem will be ignored and never identified. This reform only makes things worse.

Greater regulation of lobbyists is a dangerous and unnecessary proposition. If one expects to solve a problem without correctly identifying its source, the problem persists. The first amendment clearly states ``Congress shall make no laws respecting the right of the people to petition the government for a redress of grievances.'' That means no law.

The problem of special interest government that breeds corruption comes from our lack of respect for the Constitution in the first place. So what do we do? We further violate the Constitution, rather than examine it for guidance as to the proper role of the Federal Government.

Laws addressing bribery, theft, and fraud already on the books are adequate to deal with the criminal activities associated with lobbying. New laws and regulations are unnecessary.

The theft that the Federal Government commits against its citizens and the power that Congress has assumed illegally are the real crimes that need to be dealt with. In this regard, we truly need a new

direction: get rid of the evil tax system, the fraudulent monetary system and the power of the government to run our lives, the economy and the world, and the Abramoff types would be exposed for the mere gnats they are. There would be a lot less of them since the incentive to buy politicians would be removed.

Even under today's flawed system of democratic government, which is dedicated to redistributing property by force, a lot could be accomplished if government attracted men and women of good will and character. Members could just refuse to yield to the temptations of office and reject the path to a lobbying career.

But it seems once government adopts the rules of immorality, some of the participants in the process yield to the temptation as well, succumbing to the belief that the new moral standards are acceptable.

Today, though, any new rules designed to restrain special interest favoritism will only push the money further under the table.

Too much is at stake. Corporations, bureaucrats, lobbyists and politicians have grown accustomed to the system and have learned to work within it to survive. Only when the trough is empty will the country wake up. Eliminating earmarks in the budget will not solve the problem.

Comparing the current scandal to the big one, the Abramoff types are petty thieves. The government deals in trillions of dollars, the Abramoffs in mere millions. Take a look at the undeclared war we are bogged down in 6,000 miles from our shore. We have spent $300 billion already, but Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz argues that the war will actually cost between $1 trillion and $2 trillion when it is all over. That is trillions, not billions. Even that figure is unpredictable, because we may be in Iraq for another year or 10. Who knows.

Considering the war had nothing to do with our national security, we are talking big bucks being wasted in lining the pockets of well-connected American corporations. Waste, fraud, stupidity, and no-bid contracts characterize the process; and it is all done in the name of patriotism and national security. Dissenters are accused of supporting the enemy. Now, this is a ripoff that a little tinkering with House rules and restraints on lobbyists won't do much to solve.

Think of how this undeclared war has contributed to our national deficit, undermined military preparedness, antagonized our allies, and exposed us to an even greater threat from those who resent our destructive occupation. Claiming we have no interest in the oil of the entire Middle East hardly helps our credibility throughout the world.

The system of special interest government that has evolved over the last several decades has given us a national debt of over $8 trillion, a debt that now expands by over $600 billion every year. Our total obligations are estimated to be between $15 trillion and $20 trillion. Most people realize that the Social Security system, the Medicare system and the new prescription drug program are unfunded. Thousands of private pension funds are now being dumped on the U.S. Government and American taxpayers. We are borrowing over $700 billion each year from foreigners to finance this extravagance, and we now

[Page: H323]qualify as the greatest international debtor Nation in history.
Excessive consumption using borrowed money is hardly the way to secure a sound economy. Instead of reining in government spending, Congress remains oblivious to the financial dangers and panders to special interests by offering no resistance whatsoever to every request for new spending. Congress spends $2.7 trillion annually in an attempt to satisfy everyone's demands. The system has generated over $200 trillion in derivatives.

These problems can't be addressed with token leadership changes and tinkering with the budget. A new and dramatic direction is required.

As current policy further erodes the budget, special interests and Members of Congress become even more aggressive in their efforts to capture a piece of the dwindling economic pie. That success is the measure of effectiveness that guarantees a Member's reelection.

The biggest ripoff of all, the paper money system that is morally and economically equivalent to counterfeiting, is never questioned. It is the deceptive tool for transferring billions from the unsuspecting poor and middle class to the special-interest rich, and in the process the deficit-propelled budget process supports the spending demands of all the special interests, left and right, welfare and warfare, while delaying payment to another day and sometimes even to another generation.

The enormous sums spent each year to support the influential special interests expand exponentially and no one really asks how it is accomplished. Raising taxes to balance the budget is out of the question, and rightfully so. Foreigners have been generous in their willingness to loan us most of what we need, but even that generosity is limited and may well diminish in the future.

But if the Federal Reserve did not pick up the slack and create huge amounts of new credit and money out of thin air, interest rates would rise and call a halt to the charade. The people who suffer from a depreciated dollar don't understand why they suffer, while the people who benefit promote the corrupt system. The wealthy clean up on Wall Street and the unsophisticated buy in at the market tops. Wealth is transferred from one group to another, and it is all related to the system that allows politicians and the central banks to create money out of thin air. It is literally legalized counterfeiting.

Is it any wonder jobs go overseas? True capital only comes from savings, and Americans save nothing. We only borrow and consume. A counterfeiter has no incentive to take his newly created money and build factories. The incentive for Americans is to buy consumers goods from other countries whose people are willing to save and invest in their factories and jobs. The only way we can continue this charade is to borrow excess dollars back from the foreign governments who sell us goods and perpetuate the pretense of wealth that we enjoy.

The system of money contributes significantly to the problems of illegal immigration. On the surface, immigrants escaping poverty in Mexico and Central America come here for the economic opportunity that our economy offers. However, the social services they receive, including education and medical benefits, as well as the jobs they get, are dependent on our perpetual indebtedness to foreign countries. When the burden of debt becomes excessive, this incentive to seek prosperity here in the United States will change.

The prime beneficiaries of a paper money system are those who use the money early, governments, politicians, bankers, international corporations and the military industrial complex. Those who suffer most are the ones at the end of the money chain, the people forced to use depreciated dollars to buy urgently needed goods and services to survive. And guess what? By then, their money is worth less, prices soar, and their standard of living goes down.

[Time: 22:15] The consequences of this system, fully in place for the past 34 years, are astronomical and impossible to accurately measure. Industries go offshore, and the jobs follow. Price inflation eats away at the middle class and deficits soar, while spending escalates rapidly as Congress hopes to keep up with the problems it created.

The remaining wealth that we struggle to hold on to is based on debt, future tax revenues, and our ability to manufacture new tax dollars without restraint.

There is only one problem. It all depends on trust in the dollar, especially by foreign holders and purchasers. This trust will end, and signs of the beginning of the end are already appearing.

During this administration, the dollar has suffered severely as a consequence of the policy of inflating the currency to pay our bills. The dollar price of gold has more than doubled. This means the dollar has depreciated in terms of gold, the time-honored and reliable measurement of a nation's currency, by an astounding 55 percent. The long-term economic health of a nation is measured by the soundness of its currency. Once Rome converted from a republic to an empire, she depreciated her currency to pay the bills. This eventually led to Rome's downfall. That is exactly what America is facing unless we change our ways.

Now, this is a real scandal worth worrying about. Since it is not yet on Washington's radar screen, no attempt at addressing the problem is being made. Instead, we will be sure to make those the Constitution terms petitioners to redress their grievances fill out more forms. We will make government officials attend more ethics courses so they can learn how to be more ethical.

A free nation as it moves towards authoritarianism tolerates and hides a lot of the abuse in the system. The human impulse for wealth creation is hard to destroy, but in the end it will happen here if true reform of our economic, monetary, and political system is not accomplished.

Whether government programs are promoted for good causes, helping the poor, or bad causes, permitting a military industrial complex to capitalize on war profits, the principles of the market are undermined. Eventually, nearly everyone becomes dependent on the system of deficits, borrowing, printing press money, and the special interest budget process that distributes the loot by majority vote.

Today, most business interests and the poor are dependent on government handouts. Education and medical care is almost completely controlled and regulated by an overpowering central government. We have come to accept our role as world policeman and nation builder with little question despite the bad results and inability to pay the bills.

The question is, what will it take to bring about the changes in policy needed to reverse this dangerous trend? The answer is, quite a lot; and, unfortunately, it is not on the horizon. It probably will not come until there is a rejection of the dollar as the safest and strongest world currency and a return to commodity money like gold and silver to return confidence.

The Abramoff-type scandals come and go in Washington, patched over with grandiose schemes and reform that amount to nothing more than government and congressional mischief. But our efforts should be directed toward eliminating the greatest of all frauds, printing press money that creates the political conditions breeding the vultures and leaches who feed off the corrupt system.

Counterfeiting money never creates wealth. It only steals wealth from the unsuspecting. The Federal Reserve creation of money is exactly the same. Increasing the dollars in circulation can only diminish the value of each existing dollar. Only production and jobs can make a country wealthy in the long run. Today, it is obvious our country is becoming poorer and more uneasy as our jobs and capital go overseas.

The Abramoff scandal can serve a useful purpose if we put it in the context of the entire system that encourages corruption. If it is seen as an isolated case of individual corruption and not an expected consequence of big government run amok, little good will come of it. If we understand how our system of government intervenes in our personal lives, the entire economy and the internal affairs of other nations around the world, we can understand how it generates the conditions where lobbyists thrive.

Only then will some good come of it. Only then will we understand that undermining the first amendment right of

[Page: H324]people to petition the government is hardly a solution to this much more serious and pervasive problem.
If we are inclined to improve conditions we should give serious consideration to the following policy reforms, reforms the American people who cherish liberty would enthusiastically support. Let us have no more No Child Left Behind legislation. Let us have no more prescription drugs programs. No more undeclared wars. No more nation building. No more acting as the world policeman. No more deficits. No more excessive spending everywhere. No more political and partisan resolutions designed to embarrass those who may well have legitimate and honest disagreements with current policy. No inferences that disagreeing with policy is unpatriotic or disloyal to the country. No more pretense of budget reforms while ignoring off-budget spending in the ever-growing 14 appropriations bills.

Cut funding for corporate welfare, foreign aid, international NGOs, defense contractors, the military industrial complex, and rich corporate farmers before cutting welfare for the poor at home. No more unconstitutional intrusions into the privacy of law-abiding American citizens. Reconsider the hysterical demands for security over liberty by curtailing the ever-expanding oppressive wars on drugs, tax violators and gun ownership.

Finally, why not try something novel like having Congress act as an independent and equal branch of government? Restore the principle of the separation of powers so that we can perform our duty to provide checks and balances on an executive branch and an accommodating judiciary that spies on Americans, glorifies the welfare state, fights undeclared wars, and enormously increases the national debt.

Congress was not meant to be a rubber stamp. It is time for a new direction.

An Absolute Must Read;

You don't need me today. Thanks to qrswave for pointing this out, and to an anonymous person for making it available. I cannot get the link to work, so I am printing the entire speech before the House of Representatives.

This is what I have been talking about all along, why our economy will and must collapse. I hope that I mentioned in my 6 part series way back when that one option was that the true Power People would speak to the American people in open and honest terms, I am not going to re-read it to see. I hope and pray that this is the beginning to that honesty, and that others will soon follow. Maybe now someone will take Cyclone seriously. This man is a Libertarian, but it actually makes sense that such a person would be picked for duty, should this be the case. Please read and study this, it is the TRUTH. Expressed in a much more clear fashion than I am able to express it. We will discuss it later. Thank you, Ron Paul from Texas.

The End of Dollar Hegemony

A hundred years ago it was called “dollar diplomacy.” After World War II, and especially after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989, that policy evolved into “dollar hegemony.” But after all these many years of great success, our dollar dominance is coming to an end.
It has been said, rightly, that he who holds the gold makes the rules. In earlier times it was readily accepted that fair and honest trade required an exchange for something of real value.
First it was simply barter of goods. Then it was discovered that gold held a universal attraction, and was a convenient substitute for more cumbersome barter transactions. Not only did gold facilitate exchange of goods and services, it served as a store of value for those who wanted to save for a rainy day.
Though money developed naturally in the marketplace, as governments grew in power they assumed monopoly control over money. Sometimes governments succeeded in guaranteeing the quality and purity of gold, but in time governments learned to outspend their revenues. New or higher taxes always incurred the disapproval of the people, so it wasn’t long before Kings and Caesars learned how to inflate their currencies by reducing the amount of gold in each coin-- always hoping their subjects wouldn’t discover the fraud. But the people always did, and they strenuously objected.
This helped pressure leaders to seek more gold by conquering other nations. The people became accustomed to living beyond their means, and enjoyed the circuses and bread. Financing extravagances by conquering foreign lands seemed a logical alternative to working harder and producing more. Besides, conquering nations not only brought home gold, they brought home slaves as well. Taxing the people in conquered territories also provided an incentive to build empires. This system of government worked well for a while, but the moral decline of the people led to an unwillingness to produce for themselves. There was a limit to the number of countries that could be sacked for their wealth, and this always brought empires to an end. When gold no longer could be obtained, their military might crumbled. In those days those who held the gold truly wrote the rules and lived well.
That general rule has held fast throughout the ages. When gold was used, and the rules protected honest commerce, productive nations thrived. Whenever wealthy nations-- those with powerful armies and gold-- strived only for empire and easy fortunes to support welfare at home, those nations failed.
Today the principles are the same, but the process is quite different. Gold no longer is the currency of the realm; paper is. The truth now is: “He who prints the money makes the rules”-- at least for the time being. Although gold is not used, the goals are the same: compel foreign countries to produce and subsidize the country with military superiority and control over the monetary printing presses.
Since printing paper money is nothing short of counterfeiting, the issuer of the international currency must always be the country with the military might to guarantee control over the system. This magnificent scheme seems the perfect system for obtaining perpetual wealth for the country that issues the de facto world currency. The one problem, however, is that such a system destroys the character of the counterfeiting nation’s people-- just as was the case when gold was the currency and it was obtained by conquering other nations. And this destroys the incentive to save and produce, while encouraging debt and runaway welfare.
The pressure at home to inflate the currency comes from the corporate welfare recipients, as well as those who demand handouts as compensation for their needs and perceived injuries by others. In both cases personal responsibility for one’s actions is rejected.
When paper money is rejected, or when gold runs out, wealth and political stability are lost. The country then must go from living beyond its means to living beneath its means, until the economic and political systems adjust to the new rules-- rules no longer written by those who ran the now defunct printing press.
“Dollar Diplomacy,” a policy instituted by William Howard Taft and his Secretary of State Philander C. Knox, was designed to enhance U.S. commercial investments in Latin America and the Far East. McKinley concocted a war against Spain in 1898, and (Teddy) Roosevelt’s corollary to the Monroe Doctrine preceded Taft’s aggressive approach to using the U.S. dollar and diplomatic influence to secure U.S. investments abroad. This earned the popular title of “Dollar Diplomacy.” The significance of Roosevelt’s change was that our intervention now could be justified by the mere “appearance” that a country of interest to us was politically or fiscally vulnerable to European control. Not only did we claim a right, but even an official U.S. government “obligation” to protect our commercial interests from Europeans.
This new policy came on the heels of the “gunboat” diplomacy of the late 19th century, and it meant we could buy influence before resorting to the threat of force. By the time the “dollar diplomacy” of William Howard Taft was clearly articulated, the seeds of American empire were planted. And they were destined to grow in the fertile political soil of a country that lost its love and respect for the republic bequeathed to us by the authors of the Constitution. And indeed they did. It wasn’t too long before dollar “diplomacy” became dollar “hegemony” in the second half of the 20th century.
This transition only could have occurred with a dramatic change in monetary policy and the nature of the dollar itself.
Congress created the Federal Reserve System in 1913. Between then and 1971 the principle of sound money was systematically undermined. Between 1913 and 1971, the Federal Reserve found it much easier to expand the money supply at will for financing war or manipulating the economy with little resistance from Congress-- while benefiting the special interests that influence government.
Dollar dominance got a huge boost after World War II. We were spared the destruction that so many other nations suffered, and our coffers were filled with the world’s gold. But the world chose not to return to the discipline of the gold standard, and the politicians applauded. Printing money to pay the bills was a lot more popular than taxing or restraining unnecessary spending. In spite of the short-term benefits, imbalances were institutionalized for decades to come.
The 1944 Bretton Woods agreement solidified the dollar as the preeminent world reserve currency, replacing the British pound. Due to our political and military muscle, and because we had a huge amount of physical gold, the world readily accepted our dollar (defined as 1/35th of an ounce of gold) as the world’s reserve currency. The dollar was said to be “as good as gold,” and convertible to all foreign central banks at that rate. For American citizens, however, it remained illegal to own. This was a gold-exchange standard that from inception was doomed to fail.
The U.S. did exactly what many predicted she would do. She printed more dollars for which there was no gold backing. But the world was content to accept those dollars for more than 25 years with little question-- until the French and others in the late 1960s demanded we fulfill our promise to pay one ounce of gold for each $35 they delivered to the U.S. Treasury. This resulted in a huge gold drain that brought an end to a very poorly devised pseudo-gold standard.
It all ended on August 15, 1971, when Nixon closed the gold window and refused to pay out any of our remaining 280 million ounces of gold. In essence, we declared our insolvency and everyone recognized some other monetary system had to be devised in order to bring stability to the markets.
Amazingly, a new system was devised which allowed the U.S. to operate the printing presses for the world reserve currency with no restraints placed on it-- not even a pretense of gold convertibility, none whatsoever! Though the new policy was even more deeply flawed, it nevertheless opened the door for dollar hegemony to spread.
Realizing the world was embarking on something new and mind boggling, elite money managers, with especially strong support from U.S. authorities, struck an agreement with OPEC to price oil in U.S. dollars exclusively for all worldwide transactions. This gave the dollar a special place among world currencies and in essence “backed” the dollar with oil. In return, the U.S. promised to protect the various oil-rich kingdoms in the Persian Gulf against threat of invasion or domestic coup. This arrangement helped ignite the radical Islamic movement among those who resented our influence in the region. The arrangement gave the dollar artificial strength, with tremendous financial benefits for the United States. It allowed us to export our monetary inflation by buying oil and other goods at a great discount as dollar influence flourished.
This post-Bretton Woods system was much more fragile than the system that existed between 1945 and 1971. Though the dollar/oil arrangement was helpful, it was not nearly as stable as the pseudo gold standard under Bretton Woods. It certainly was less stable than the gold standard of the late 19th century.
During the 1970s the dollar nearly collapsed, as oil prices surged and gold skyrocketed to $800 an ounce. By 1979 interest rates of 21% were required to rescue the system. The pressure on the dollar in the 1970s, in spite of the benefits accrued to it, reflected reckless budget deficits and monetary inflation during the 1960s. The markets were not fooled by LBJ’s claim that we could afford both “guns and butter.”
Once again the dollar was rescued, and this ushered in the age of true dollar hegemony lasting from the early 1980s to the present. With tremendous cooperation coming from the central banks and international commercial banks, the dollar was accepted as if it were gold.
Fed Chair Alan Greenspan, on several occasions before the House Banking Committee, answered my challenges to him about his previously held favorable views on gold by claiming that he and other central bankers had gotten paper money-- i.e. the dollar system-- to respond as if it were gold. Each time I strongly disagreed, and pointed out that if they had achieved such a feat they would have defied centuries of economic history regarding the need for money to be something of real value. He smugly and confidently concurred with this.
In recent years central banks and various financial institutions, all with vested interests in maintaining a workable fiat dollar standard, were not secretive about selling and loaning large amounts of gold to the market even while decreasing gold prices raised serious questions about the wisdom of such a policy. They never admitted to gold price fixing, but the evidence is abundant that they believed if the gold price fell it would convey a sense of confidence to the market, confidence that they indeed had achieved amazing success in turning paper into gold.
Increasing gold prices historically are viewed as an indicator of distrust in paper currency. This recent effort was not a whole lot different than the U.S. Treasury selling gold at $35 an ounce in the 1960s, in an attempt to convince the world the dollar was sound and as good as gold. Even during the Depression, one of Roosevelt’s first acts was to remove free market gold pricing as an indication of a flawed monetary system by making it illegal for American citizens to own gold. Economic law eventually limited that effort, as it did in the early 1970s when our Treasury and the IMF tried to fix the price of gold by dumping tons into the market to dampen the enthusiasm of those seeking a safe haven for a falling dollar after gold ownership was re-legalized.
Once again the effort between 1980 and 2000 to fool the market as to the true value of the dollar proved unsuccessful. In the past 5 years the dollar has been devalued in terms of gold by more than 50%. You just can’t fool all the people all the time, even with the power of the mighty printing press and money creating system of the Federal Reserve.
Even with all the shortcomings of the fiat monetary system, dollar influence thrived. The results seemed beneficial, but gross distortions built into the system remained. And true to form, Washington politicians are only too anxious to solve the problems cropping up with window dressing, while failing to understand and deal with the underlying flawed policy. Protectionism, fixing exchange rates, punitive tariffs, politically motivated sanctions, corporate subsidies, international trade management, price controls, interest rate and wage controls, super-nationalist sentiments, threats of force, and even war are resorted to—all to solve the problems artificially created by deeply flawed monetary and economic systems.
In the short run, the issuer of a fiat reserve currency can accrue great economic benefits. In the long run, it poses a threat to the country issuing the world currency. In this case that’s the United States. As long as foreign countries take our dollars in return for real goods, we come out ahead. This is a benefit many in Congress fail to recognize, as they bash China for maintaining a positive trade balance with us. But this leads to a loss of manufacturing jobs to overseas markets, as we become more dependent on others and less self-sufficient. Foreign countries accumulate our dollars due to their high savings rates, and graciously loan them back to us at low interest rates to finance our excessive consumption.
It sounds like a great deal for everyone, except the time will come when our dollars-- due to their depreciation-- will be received less enthusiastically or even be rejected by foreign countries. That could create a whole new ballgame and force us to pay a price for living beyond our means and our production. The shift in sentiment regarding the dollar has already started, but the worst is yet to come.
The agreement with OPEC in the 1970s to price oil in dollars has provided tremendous artificial strength to the dollar as the preeminent reserve currency. This has created a universal demand for the dollar, and soaks up the huge number of new dollars generated each year. Last year alone M3 increased over $700 billion.
The artificial demand for our dollar, along with our military might, places us in the unique position to “rule” the world without productive work or savings, and without limits on consumer spending or deficits. The problem is, it can’t last.
Price inflation is raising its ugly head, and the NASDAQ bubble-- generated by easy money-- has burst. The housing bubble likewise created is deflating. Gold prices have doubled, and federal spending is out of sight with zero political will to rein it in. The trade deficit last year was over $728 billion. A $2 trillion war is raging, and plans are being laid to expand the war into Iran and possibly Syria. The only restraining force will be the world’s rejection of the dollar. It’s bound to come and create conditions worse than 1979-1980, which required 21% interest rates to correct. But everything possible will be done to protect the dollar in the meantime. We have a shared interest with those who hold our dollars to keep the whole charade going.
Greenspan, in his first speech after leaving the Fed, said that gold prices were up because of concern about terrorism, and not because of monetary concerns or because he created too many dollars during his tenure. Gold has to be discredited and the dollar propped up. Even when the dollar comes under serious attack by market forces, the central banks and the IMF surely will do everything conceivable to soak up the dollars in hope of restoring stability. Eventually they will fail.
Most importantly, the dollar/oil relationship has to be maintained to keep the dollar as a preeminent currency. Any attack on this relationship will be forcefully challenged—as it already has been.
In November 2000 Saddam Hussein demanded Euros for his oil. His arrogance was a threat to the dollar; his lack of any military might was never a threat. At the first cabinet meeting with the new administration in 2001, as reported by Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill, the major topic was how we would get rid of Saddam Hussein-- though there was no evidence whatsoever he posed a threat to us. This deep concern for Saddam Hussein surprised and shocked O’Neill.
It now is common knowledge that the immediate reaction of the administration after 9/11 revolved around how they could connect Saddam Hussein to the attacks, to justify an invasion and overthrow of his government. Even with no evidence of any connection to 9/11, or evidence of weapons of mass destruction, public and congressional support was generated through distortions and flat out misrepresentation of the facts to justify overthrowing Saddam Hussein.
There was no public talk of removing Saddam Hussein because of his attack on the integrity of the dollar as a reserve currency by selling oil in Euros. Many believe this was the real reason for our obsession with Iraq. I doubt it was the only reason, but it may well have played a significant role in our motivation to wage war. Within a very short period after the military victory, all Iraqi oil sales were carried out in dollars. The Euro was abandoned.
In 2001, Venezuela’s ambassador to Russia spoke of Venezuela switching to the Euro for all their oil sales. Within a year there was a coup attempt against Chavez, reportedly with assistance from our CIA.
After these attempts to nudge the Euro toward replacing the dollar as the world’s reserve currency were met with resistance, the sharp fall of the dollar against the Euro was reversed. These events may well have played a significant role in maintaining dollar dominance.
It’s become clear the U.S. administration was sympathetic to those who plotted the overthrow of Chavez, and was embarrassed by its failure. The fact that Chavez was democratically elected had little influence on which side we supported.
Now, a new attempt is being made against the petrodollar system. Iran, another member of the “axis of evil,” has announced her plans to initiate an oil bourse in March of this year. Guess what, the oil sales will be priced Euros, not dollars.
Most Americans forget how our policies have systematically and needlessly antagonized the Iranians over the years. In 1953 the CIA helped overthrow a democratically elected president, Mohammed Mossadeqh, and install the authoritarian Shah, who was friendly to the U.S. The Iranians were still fuming over this when the hostages were seized in 1979. Our alliance with Saddam Hussein in his invasion of Iran in the early 1980s did not help matters, and obviously did not do much for our relationship with Saddam Hussein. The administration announcement in 2001 that Iran was part of the axis of evil didn’t do much to improve the diplomatic relationship between our two countries. Recent threats over nuclear power, while ignoring the fact that they are surrounded by countries with nuclear weapons, doesn’t seem to register with those who continue to provoke Iran. With what most Muslims perceive as our war against Islam, and this recent history, there’s little wonder why Iran might choose to harm America by undermining the dollar. Iran, like Iraq, has zero capability to attack us. But that didn’t stop us from turning Saddam Hussein into a modern day Hitler ready to take over the world. Now Iran, especially since she’s made plans for pricing oil in Euros, has been on the receiving end of a propaganda war not unlike that waged against Iraq before our invasion.
It’s not likely that maintaining dollar supremacy was the only motivating factor for the war against Iraq, nor for agitating against Iran. Though the real reasons for going to war are complex, we now know the reasons given before the war started, like the presence of weapons of mass destruction and Saddam Hussein’s connection to 9/11, were false. The dollar’s importance is obvious, but this does not diminish the influence of the distinct plans laid out years ago by the neo-conservatives to remake the Middle East. Israel’s influence, as well as that of the Christian Zionists, likewise played a role in prosecuting this war. Protecting “our” oil supplies has influenced our Middle East policy for decades.
But the truth is that paying the bills for this aggressive intervention is impossible the old fashioned way, with more taxes, more savings, and more production by the American people. Much of the expense of the Persian Gulf War in 1991 was shouldered by many of our willing allies. That’s not so today. Now, more than ever, the dollar hegemony-- it’s dominance as the world reserve currency-- is required to finance our huge war expenditures. This $2 trillion never-ending war must be paid for, one way or another. Dollar hegemony provides the vehicle to do just that.
For the most part the true victims aren’t aware of how they pay the bills. The license to create money out of thin air allows the bills to be paid through price inflation. American citizens, as well as average citizens of Japan, China, and other countries suffer from price inflation, which represents the “tax” that pays the bills for our military adventures. That is until the fraud is discovered, and the foreign producers decide not to take dollars nor hold them very long in payment for their goods. Everything possible is done to prevent the fraud of the monetary system from being exposed to the masses who suffer from it. If oil markets replace dollars with Euros, it would in time curtail our ability to continue to print, without restraint, the world’s reserve currency.
It is an unbelievable benefit to us to import valuable goods and export depreciating dollars. The exporting countries have become addicted to our purchases for their economic growth. This dependency makes them allies in continuing the fraud, and their participation keeps the dollar’s value artificially high. If this system were workable long term, American citizens would never have to work again. We too could enjoy “bread and circuses” just as the Romans did, but their gold finally ran out and the inability of Rome to continue to plunder conquered nations brought an end to her empire.
The same thing will happen to us if we don’t change our ways. Though we don’t occupy foreign countries to directly plunder, we nevertheless have spread our troops across 130 nations of the world. Our intense effort to spread our power in the oil-rich Middle East is not a coincidence. But unlike the old days, we don’t declare direct ownership of the natural resources-- we just insist that we can buy what we want and pay for it with our paper money. Any country that challenges our authority does so at great risk.
Once again Congress has bought into the war propaganda against Iran, just as it did against Iraq. Arguments are now made for attacking Iran economically, and militarily if necessary. These arguments are all based on the same false reasons given for the ill-fated and costly occupation of Iraq.
Our whole economic system depends on continuing the current monetary arrangement, which means recycling the dollar is crucial. Currently, we borrow over $700 billion every year from our gracious benefactors, who work hard and take our paper for their goods. Then we borrow all the money we need to secure the empire (DOD budget $450 billion) plus more. The military might we enjoy becomes the “backing” of our currency. There are no other countries that can challenge our military superiority, and therefore they have little choice but to accept the dollars we declare are today’s “gold.” This is why countries that challenge the system-- like Iraq, Iran and Venezuela-- become targets of our plans for regime change.
Ironically, dollar superiority depends on our strong military, and our strong military depends on the dollar. As long as foreign recipients take our dollars for real goods and are willing to finance our extravagant consumption and militarism, the status quo will continue regardless of how huge our foreign debt and current account deficit become.
But real threats come from our political adversaries who are incapable of confronting us militarily, yet are not bashful about confronting us economically. That’s why we see the new challenge from Iran being taken so seriously. The urgent arguments about Iran posing a military threat to the security of the United States are no more plausible than the false charges levied against Iraq. Yet there is no effort to resist this march to confrontation by those who grandstand for political reasons against the Iraq war.

It seems that the people and Congress are easily persuaded by the jingoism of the preemptive war promoters. It’s only after the cost in human life and dollars are tallied up that the people object to unwise militarism.
The strange thing is that the failure in Iraq is now apparent to a large majority of American people, yet they and Congress are acquiescing to the call for a needless and dangerous confrontation with Iran.
But then again, our failure to find Osama bin Laden and destroy his network did not dissuade us from taking on the Iraqis in a war totally unrelated to 9/11.
Concern for pricing oil only in dollars helps explain our willingness to drop everything and teach Saddam Hussein a lesson for his defiance in demanding Euros for oil.
And once again there’s this urgent call for sanctions and threats of force against Iran at the precise time Iran is opening a new oil exchange with all transactions in Euros.
Using force to compel people to accept money without real value can only work in the short run. It ultimately leads to economic dislocation, both domestic and international, and always ends with a price to be paid.
The economic law that honest exchange demands only things of real value as currency cannot be repealed. The chaos that one day will ensue from our 35-year experiment with worldwide fiat money will require a return to money of real value. We will know that day is approaching when oil-producing countries demand gold, or its equivalent, for their oil rather than dollars or Euros. The sooner the better.

The Gang Who Couldn't Shoot Straight

I have said many times before that Dick Cheney is the real President of the United States. If what has occurred over the last 5 days does not prove that once and for all, I think that nothing will.

First, the Vice President shoots someone, apparently sometime toward dusk on Saturday evening. Then, long after the Sunday paper has been printed, some ranch owner from Texas reports this to a small paper in Corpus Christi, Tx. On Monday, the White House press corps has many questions for the human pin cushion, Scott McClellan, who was clearly out of touch with who knew what when. Sometime Monday morning, the Vice President informs Boosh of these activites, though we don't know whether he passed on the information himself or through one of his aides. To top it off, it is now 5 days later and we have heard nothing from Cheney on this issue other than the standard, "Do you need anything," to the victim. Anyone see anything wrong with this picture?

If I am the President of the United States and my Vice President shoots someone, accident or not, I WAN'T TO KNOW ABOUT IT IMMEDIATELY. After all, the man works for me and there is a thing called respect and decency, something that Cheney clearly is without. I also want someone in my White House making the announcement, not a ranch owner in Texas stating that "by god Harry got peppered pretty good." Especially since now Mr. Whittington has suffered a heart attack. And, I want the American people knowing that all is well, an accident occurred, but we are hopeful that Mr. Whittington heals. And that the Vice President is "deeply sorry" for this incident. In other words, show some care for the people you represent.

Since this White House chose to do just the opposite, what was probably a one day story has turned into another debacle that could last for weeks if not longer. Sending McClellan to the podium without any information, other than "it's a private matter and you need to ask the Vice President's office about it," just simply doesn't cut it. That remains obvious each time McClellan speaks, when he is bombarded with questions about the quail story. It's not going to "just go away."

Nor is it a private matter. Sorry, when the Vice President of the United States shoots someone, the American people have the right to know about it. And, hear about it from the administration in charge, not some lady who owns some land and some quail in Texas. Sure, Dick Cheney has always been a private person who loathes the press and the American people. This is certainly no secret, nor surprising. In fact, it's really not about the shooting, or the office of the Vice President at all. It is about the way that the Boosh administration handles everything from the Iraq war, to Katrina, now to Quailgate, and everything in between.

They try to keep it a secret. When that fails, they lie. Or, if they don't lie, they handle it so poorly that many believe that they are lying. Now, given the 15 odd hour period between the time of the accident and Cheney's speaking to law enforcement officials, rumors are running wild. Was it an accident? Was Cheney drunk at the time? Rumors that could have been stopped before they started, simply by the Vice President or someone high up in government making a statement to the American people.

They are incompetent. There is no other way to describe them. Every move they make seems to defy any reasonable and rational thinking.. Boosh screws up everything he touches, and Cheney clearly runs the show. Boosh apparently does not have the authority to make Cheney do anything, even if it is Boosh who pays the ultimate price for it.

Everything is backwards here. The opposite of how it is supposed to be. This becomes obvious every time that McClellan says, "Go ask the Vice President's office." Clearly, the vice president carries more clout than the President. Otherwise, Boosh would have picked up the phone, called Cheney, and asked him what the hell happened. Boosh then would have ordered Cheney to make a statement to the press, explaining the unfortunate incident and saving the administration further embarassment. Ending the story, so to speak. Regardless of how uncomfortable that makes Cheney. But, that is not what happened, and the administration saying now that Cheney will make a statement doesn't get it. It's too late, damage already done. Yet they wonder why we won't just take their word for things. They can't handle something as simple as this, yet we are supposed to trust them with more important things. Things like war, WMD, and domestic spying.

This administration has collapsed. I said long ago that Boosh trusts no one and that they were out of control. It turns out that I was more right than I even thought I was. We are the laughingstock of the world, at a time when we desperately need leadership. We maybe need competent leadership more now than at any time in our history. Instead, we have the Bad News Bears of leadership. We have a dysfunctional group of folks masquerading as a Presidential Administration, making one mistake after another, on even the simplest of subjects. Like a hunting accident.

Hey, Wanna Go Hunting?

So, it appears that going quail hunting with Dick Cheney can be a painful experience. Just who does this guy think he is, anyway. Bobby Knight? Just a few short years ago Knight had a similar experience, though whether his case was a true "accident" was brought into question when the victim sued Knight and the case was settled out of court. But Cheney?

I cannot imagine anyone voluntarily wishing to spend a day with our President, er, Vice President, armed or otherwise. Especially in the middle of some field full of birds and cow turds. Unless, of course, you represent Haliburton and are looking for a no-bid contract of some sort. Since this guy, Harry Whittington, is reportedly a multi-millionaire lawyer, I'm guessing that the man was being forced to "hunt against his will."

The incident happened on Friday, and the Veep's office didn't bother to report it for nearly 24 hours, and only then after the Corpus Christi Caller-Times announced it to the world. Whittington was in intensive care, with pellet wounds to the cheek, neck and chest. He was standing some 30 yards away from Cheney when he was blasted, and was apparently approaching Cheney from behind. I guess that shows it's not wise to sneak up on Cheney.

I can see it now. Cheney, the paranoid head case that he is, spins, for a fleeting moment wonders why the "quail" has on an orange vest, but fires away anyway thinking that this is truly a trophy quail. The biggest damn quail anyone had ever seen. Probably mount that bad boy, if one does such things with birds. I know that fish are mounted, the heads of deer are mounted. Not sure about birds.

Probably the best part of all of this was the statement released by Cheney spokesperson Lea Anne McBride. She said that the Vice President visited Whittington and his wife in the intensive care unit on Sunday, and that Cheney "was pleased to see that he's doing fine and in good spirits." A true, compassionate conservative approach that we have become accustomed to hearing from Booshco. Hell, what would you expect Whittington to say? Were I lying in intensive care after being shot from 30 yards by this nutcase, I would probably tell him that I was in "good spirits" too. Otherwise, I would expect him to start yanking wires out of my body and pulling the IV from my arm, allowing me to die a slow and painful death. Since no Doctor was allowed to be near the Veep, only the Secret Service would be there to save me. And, saving me would likely not be near the top of the SS list of things to do for the day.

The other amusing part was the response from the gal who owned the ranch where the incident occured. Katharine Armstrong, the land owner, said the following. Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself. The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by god, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good." Only in Texas would you hear "got peppered pretty good" in describing the shooting of a human being. Okay, maybe Oklahoma, too. But this incident leaves questions.

First, did the bird fly in a circle causing Cheney to do a 180 and shoot behind him? Was this bird having flying problems, like a broken wing or something? Or, did Whittington have a Jordanesque-like vertical leap, jump and hang in the air next to the bird? Or, was it one of those controlled hunts, where the target is really in a small pen or had a bowling ball tied to it's foot? These are all questions that we will likely never have answers to. Since the "other hunter" has not been identified and we don't know his condition, more questions are left unanswered. Maybe it was one of those spy novel scenarios where no witness was allowed to be left alive, other than Ms. Armstrong. And she was only allowed to survive because she owned the place and they may need to do another controlled hunt someday.

I would propose that we have a "hunt off." Get Bobby Knight and Cheney together, send them to Corpus Christi and let them hunt together. No need for orange vests, they apparently don't pay any attention to them anyway. Besides, it's hard to get blood out of those things, I hear. We could take up a collection, and let the last man standing take home all the money. I figure we could get maybe $10 together, if we all dug real deep. Might even be a tax deductible campaign contribution, should Cheney be the victor.

Just in case Mr. Knight or Mr. Cheney read this and consider dialing their lawyers, THIS IS SATIRE. Just kidding, you know, funny hah hah. One I just couldn't pass up. I wouldn't "really think" that people with the personalities of a Knight or Cheney would intentionally harm another human being. I probably shouldn't worry though. I have a feeling that it might take Cheney a while to reach his lawyer. I don't think they have private phone lines in the ICU unit of hospitals. Knight, now that's a different story. THUS THE DISCLAIMER, General Robert Montgomery.

OOPS, T-Shirts Again

A few people have pointed out to me that I forgot to describe the T-shirts. Sorry, a brain fry occured I guess.

The front will have: The word Cyclone's in an arch
Below that: a drawing of a cyclone
Below that: Real Deal

Back of Shirt: The Truth
Below that: Nothing But the Truth
Below that: Another drawing of a cyclone
Below that: www.cyclonesrealdeal.com

Color varies with the shirts, but black and red will be predominant for the artwork. Except for the black shirts, which will likely be predominately white, with some red.
It appears that the most popular color so far is the stone washed blue, which is definately my favorite. Black, fading into white, with red, looks good on the blue.

That's it. Sorry, I meant to put that in the last post.

Another omission pointed out to me. They will be short sleeved. If enough people want long sleeved, it could probably be done, but would have to be done in White I think. They would cost a little more. I have not investigated that, so I'm not sure how much more they would be.

T-Shirt Update

The artwork has been finalized for the Real Deal T-Shirts. Thanks for all of your ideas. There will be 4 colors available, unless something unforeseen happens. Stone-washed blue, Dark Red, Black and White. I know that many of you already told me what you wanted, but please re-order if possible. I need to know that you are still interested. Please send me (again) your color preference, size and quantity. They will be $14.50 per shirt, unless you need something larger than XL. If larger ones are needed, they will be $2.00 more. I think that the $14.50 should cover shipping as well, but I am not positive about that. I'll let you know as soon as I find out for sure. The international orders will likely have a small shipping fee added. Please email me;

cyclone@cyclonesrealdeal.com

and let me know the details of what you want.

Just so all will know, I am not making any profit on these things, in fact it will be a loser for me. Several folks from very poor countries have requested many shirts, and I am going to send them for well under actual cost, simply because they need clothing and they want to help make a statement. They also support this site regularly. This site is not intended to make money, but simply speak the truth and help people to prepare for the uncertain future that we all face. That is why you do not see any advertising here, and never will, outside of something like this. This idea was tossed out by a reader, and I think that it will be fun. Plus, like I said, we will need each other some day.

So, please start sending orders in when you can, and don't forget to tell me what color you want. I hope? that I can begin the shipping process in approximately 3 weeks, but as we know, sometimes things don't go as smoothly as we expect. So, please be patient. I will be able to take payment through PayPal for those of you who wish to use that method, and I'll take checks or money orders for others. I am not set up to take credit cards, since this is the first time (and probably last)that I have sold anything on the site. I think PayPal is pretty easy, though. I'll give you a PayPal location, plus an address for others to send checks to sometime next week . Like I said earlier, I won't take any money from anyone until I have the actual products in my hand.

Thanks for supporting The Real Deal. Who knows, maybe we'll start our own community when the crash hits and we are all stumbling around in the dark.

A New Word; Short Shorts

Booshonian

After analyzing Boosh for all these years, I have decided that there is no word to describe his artful dialect. If he and the Boosh favorite, "the greatest Supreme Court Justice ever" Clarence Thomas, were to have a conversation, no one on earth would know what the hell they were talking about. But, I digress. Back to the word. Booshisms is used and stale, so I am making one up.(or at least I think I am) Booshonian. I think it fits the man and the circumstances that we find ourselves facing perfectly. Yesterday, Boosh had a perfect Booshonian moment. It came with the announcement of the “terror plot” that was cleverly foiled by Booshco some four years ago. Yes, that’s correct, four years ago. First mentioned four months ago, finally explained. Yesterday. The Booshonian moments come when the Booshman speaks, and inserts the pregnant pause, trying to convince you that he is serious and that the subjecct matter is very dark and dangerous. It was taught to him by the master of non-effect, John Ashcroft. The only person in history to lose an election to a dead man, I believe. Boosh usually does it at just the wrong time during his speeches, which could be for effect or because he is just an uneducated mullet imitating a President. (A mullet, for those of you who don’t know, is a vegetarian fish. I am not referring to the haircut version.) The best example of a Booshonian moment was the delivery of the line “in the form of a mushroom cloud” while speaking before the UN some years ago.

Yesterday’s Booshonian moment came when he stated, “They were going to fly a plane into the largest building west of the Mississippi, the Liberty Tower.” Followed by the, Pause, Long Pause. Such “keep you on the edge of you seat” drama is almost more than my little heart can stand. Never mind that the actual name of the building is the “Library Tower” and not the “Liberty Tower.” Nor that it is probably a total lie. The mayor of LA didn’t know a damn thing about this, had never before heard it. Nor did he know that they were going to release this information. The White House says they called him, in advance, of course. So, who do you believe?

Not that I would accuse Karl Rove or Boosh of using fear as a weapon, or releasing information for purely political reasons, of course. Liberty Tower just sounds better, and makes the Booshonian moment more effective. Maybe the misstatement of the name of the building was orchestrated, maybe it was an innocent mistake. With the lack of brain power inside the head of our President, one can never be sure. But, the timing of the announcement cannot be confused with anything other than playing the “leadership by fear” card. The world is getting ready to end and these bastards are playing games aimed at the ’06 elections. Man, it is getting boring.

I heard an employee that works in this particular building state that they (the employees) have known about this alleged threat for many years. She said that she didn’t know what the big deal was, why it was announced now. She thought that maybe they were playing that “fear game” again, and that she was getting tired of it. She said that the building had put in some extra security at the time of the alleged threat, some new concrete barriers and another level or two of rent-a-cops, but otherwise life went on as usual. No big deal. Oh, by the way, she claimed to be a Republican, showing that even they are tiring of these antics.

My Favorite Statement

The following statement perhaps fits todays America better than anything I have ever read. I have had it on my file cabinet for about a year, and think it needs to be shared.

H.L. Mencken wrote,

"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the 'plain folks' of the land will reach their heart's desire at last,
And the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

Student Loans

The stated reason for the massive cutback on the availability of student loans, “we don’t have the money,” is simply a fraud. And not a very good one, at that. How this nonsense fools anyone never ceases to amaze me. I also don't know how they can continue to do it with a straight face. I guess it's an artform. First, it is not exactly a news flash that we don’t have any money. We’ve been bankrupt since shortly after Boosh took office. That hasn’t stopped us from fighting unnecessary wars, just stopped us from spending money on things that are actually needed. To my knowledge, the damn printing presses aren’t broken, so I don’t find “we don’t have the money” to be a legitimate excuse. Printing money is how we have survived over the life of the entire Boosh administration, so why we feel the need to stop now is obvious. And no, it has nothing to do with suddenly becoming fiscally responsible.

The truth is, this “cutback” has everything to do with the war(s), and the war(s) only. As we well know, recruiting kids to get their asses blown up has been difficult of late, and the best way to raise the enlistees is to cut off education funding. Now, kids that aren’t from the elite families have one avenue to college, the military. Do you remember that “world’s largest military complex” that I wrote about some time ago? This is the beginning of that movement, and, a big part of it at that. We might even be able to avoid a draft that way, although I find that doubtful. Shameful, and disgusting. Nothing else can describe this action.

Libby Update

I hate to say I told you so, but I did. I told you all a long time ago that Plamegate would reach the door of the Vice President’s office, and it has. It seems that Scooter Libby testified that he was told by the Evil Bastard Cheney that it was okay to release all the information on Ms. Plame to the press. Now, Libby wants the records of the emails to use in his defense. Alas, the emails disappeared during that 10 hour black hole of time between when Gonzales heard of the indictments and received notice that he wasn’t to destroy anything. I’m sure that it was quite a shredding party at the White House. They probably had a shrimp ring and veggies and dip available for the occasion. Paid for by us, of course.

The problem for Libby is this. It doesn’t have a thing to do with what he is charged with. Emails and orders or not, it does not change the fact that he lied to the Grand Jury. The defense are wisely doing all they can to get the charges dropped on the basis of not having access to certain White House correspondence and documents. That strategy will fail, Libby will be convicted and Cheney will skate merrily along. Fitzgerald is at Cheney’s door, but won’t get the key to the lock. The key was shredded along with the documentation of the orders that he gave to Libby.

Rove will still fall, the Evil One will be tarnished but not ruined, at least from the Plame investigation. The Abramoff matter may be another story, however. There is no telling who all might be trapped in his web. One bit of pleasure will be had in the Abramoff scandal. Ralph Reed is guaranteed to be history. It seems he “forgot” to register as a lobbyist in Texas, after taking between 4 and 5 million dollars from Abramoff to make certain a casino was not opened. Good riddance to the Stealth Evangelist. I hope they throw away the key when they take him down. Were I Ralph Reed, I would probably be looking into saving souls in a country that has no extradition treaty with the US, and head there to set up shop pretty quickly. Right after I announced that “for personal reasons” I have decided not to run for Lt. Governor of Georgia, of course.

Something New, the Boosh Quote of the Day

I am going to start putting one of these with each post. Believe me, Boosh makes Dan Quayle look like Einstein.

" The CIA laid out several scenarios and said life could be lousy, life could be okay, life could be better, and they were just guessing as to what conditions might be like."

Cartoons and More

“I have no doubt that Iran and Syria have gone out of their way to inflame sentiments and have used it for their own purposes. The world ought to call them on it.” These are the words of Condoleezza Rice, referring to the rage over the cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in less than proper light. Hmmmm, Iran and Syria. An interesting choice of countries to condemn, considering that violence is occurring all over the world in protest of these cartoons.

We just can’t help ourselves. We insist upon maintaining the facade of a country to be taken seriously. The truth is obvious to everyone who we choose to condemn and those that we choose as friends, even obvious to some of us. Our grip on power, our credibility, and our status as a superpower is slipping away like a runaway truck going down a mountainside. And, if throwing Iran into the drumbeat for war wasn’t enough, we must now insert Syria into the equation.

We say that we want a Diplomatic solution in the stare down with Iran. Sound familiar? It should. It was the same thing that we said about Iraq, long after we planned the invasion of their sovereign land. Now, as Iran laughs in our face while we make idle threats that can’t be backed up, we start the same rhetoric with Syria. Why not call out Denmark, Norway, or one of the many European countries where similar demonstrations are being carried out? Are there not people there who are “inflaming sentiments?” Or, is it not to our advantage to do so?

Maybe it’s time that the world calls out the US on a few things. Maybe Rice should look in the mirror and see exactly what her country, the United States of America, has done to “inflame sentiments” to “use for their own purposes.” Like, for instance Iraq, and the presence of weapons of mass destruction that existed only in the mind of her boss and his henchmen. Or, when looking at the Iran situation, asking for sanctions, thus putting the world on the cusp of WWIII. Maybe it’s time that Rice, Boosh and the rest be quiet and listen for once, instead of playing the role of the bully of the world. The world is not ours to rule, nor is it our position to solve or even stick our nose in every crisis that pops up. Maybe we should leave that to Dr. Phil and Oprah. After all, they are the ones that educate our masses.

Perhaps Booshco should heed the words of Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah. He said, “Defending the Prophet should continue worldwide. Let Condoleezza Rice, Boosh, and all the tyrants shut up: We are a nation that can’t forgive, be silent or ease up when they insult our prophet and our sacred values…..Today we are defending the dignity of our Prophet with a word, a demonstration, but let George Boosh and the arrogant world know that if we have to…we will defend our prophet with our blood, not our voices.”

But, we can’t help ourselves. Because of that, we in America are soon to learn a lesson that I first learned, probably in kindergarten. A lesson that we have obviously forgotten. That lesson is this. The world is round, and you had better not dish it out if you can’t take it. We have dished it out for so long, used it for our own purposes for so long, that we now think we own it.

But, we don’t. It won’t last, can’t last. The stars are aligning, and they are not aligning in our favor. We will soon find out that the gig is up, and when we do, a lot of people are going to be hurt. A lot of people are also going to die. We are about to pay for our prior actions, and pay dearly. Every country in the world, except Canada, has turned on us. Canada would likely leave us as well, but there is nowhere for them to go. So, they too, will pay for the sins of America.

Boosh knows we are through, as should every thinking citizen in America. If only they took the time to think. If only they spent a little less time with Dr. Phil and Oprah. We could mitigate the damage somewhat. We could admit defeat, confess our sins, and be forgiven by much of the world. And, most of the world would forgive. Look at the outpouring of support we received after 9/11. Much of that support came from countries that we have abused in the past, countries that don’t really like us very much. But they reached out to us in our time of need, and gave what little they could, in spite of our treatment of them. The human race is by nature a forgiving race, and we could salvage a lot by just stopping the madness. But we won’t, because we can’t. It's just not in us to admit that we are wrong. We will have to learn the lesson the hard way. As the Sheik implied, we are simply too damned arrogant.
