Cyclone is Leaving the Building

A letter to Real Deal Readers:

Due to my schedule I have not been around much lately, I guess that is rather obvious. I have had time to ponder the immediate future, including how to handle the continuation of the Real Deal. I am going to attempt to explain what I must do, and to a degree, why I must do it.

I can no longer continue to maintain this blog. While it has turned into something than I never imagined possible, and a wonderful experience overall, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot go on. The reasons are many, but only a few really matter to those of you who have remained faithful during its existence. I will try to express those reasons to all of you.

Attempting to write something informative and meaningful every day over the course of many months has taken its toll on me. At one point, it nearly consumed me. I have determined that the constant focus on the negative of the current state of America and the World at large, from the Boosh administration to the War(s) to the Economy and everything in between, is simply unhealthy for me. It has had implications far beyond me, touching my friends and family in a negative fashion. One cannot keep up with the daily disasters that this administration has created without becoming jaded. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been jaded to a degree and cynical to a greater degree, and always will be. I just have to step away to see the better things in life, things that really are out there. But, these things must be sought out, they do not automatically fall into your lap. When one concentrates solely on the negative, as I have for a long while, those things are not readily visible. Unfortunately, I do not have the talent to seek both.

Additionally, whatever happens to this country and this world is going to happen and there is nothing that I can do to stop it or change it, beyond what I have already done. Over the life of the Real Deal I have said many things, and I believe(d) them to all be true. Some have proven correct, some have not, and some are yet to be determined. But rest assured, I have at no time tried to mislead anyone or state something that I did not believe to be true. The times that I have been wrong, it came to you in honest fashion.

As I’ve said before, when I started this venture, I expected it to last the life of the Plame investigation (is that over yet?) and focus solely on that. As we all know, it grew way beyond that and evolved into something with a life of its own. But, I always told myself that when I reached the point where I could not give this place the attention that it deserves, I would simply walk away. I will not continue a project like this with a less than 100% focus and effort. Over the last couple of months, I have realized that I can no longer give it the required amount of time or effort necessary to keep the writing and content at the level that drew you here in the beginning and kept you here. So, it's time to go.

The group of people who have found their way here is astonishing, both in quantity and quality. I could not ask nor expect to find a better group of “cyber friends” who have hung with me through thick and thin. We have become a family in the truest sense of the word. Believe me; I have learned a whole lot more from each of you than you possibly could have learned from me. For that, I am eternally grateful.

As for the future, the Real Deal will remain here. I owe it to all of you to leave this place as is and we'll see what happens. If nothing else, it can be a “chat room” for all to use as you see fit. Or, should you feel the need to post something, feel free to send it to me or Murph and we’ll see that it gets put up. I will still drop in on occasion, keeping track of what goes on and making a comment now and then. If the urge strikes, I may even put up a post or two, especially if the world truly reaches the point that I believe it will soon reach. But, until then, I must let the chips fall where they may and search for the Good that is present in our world. I have to now take the time to focus on things necessary to take care of myself and my family, regardless of what the future brings.

Please continue to stay in touch, email me anytime you feel the urge. I am by no means falling off the face of the earth; I’m simply backing out of the ugly arena of politics to re-focus my mind and thoughts elsewhere. I want to stay in contact with all of you, I truly consider you dear friends. And, I still hope that one day we may all meet somewhere and shake hands or share a hug. When the time is right, we will know it and somehow make it happen. In the meantime, please stay in touch.

I now depart with a tinge of sadness and a big Thank You to all. But, I cannot do so without leaving you with one last Booshism. Never forget, this buffoon is the leader of the “free world.”

Cyclone,
I understand your need to put your attention on more positive thoughts and contemplate more than economic and moral collapse and corruption. Toxic subjects for the spirit. So, I wish you well in your search for balance.
There will always be a spot saved for you in our circle of council, however that looks. Maybe you'll find once your batteries are re-charged that you once again, have a lot more to say. Whatever is real for you is okay. That was always the contract - The Real Deal.
This site has been such an enrichment with everyone's participation - such a pleasure to come to know this diverse bunch. I, for one, want it to carry on, if possible.
Thank you, Cyclone, for all you have done for us. It's not over, it's just different. I have faith that you won't be able to resist letting us know what the dumbass still does once in awhile...

I echo Freeacre on this. And I surely do hope that the site continues with contributions from everyone.

In the last post, the subject was brought up about the 60's and 70's. I have a new post to put up about that period that I will wait a couple of days before presenting.

Thanks again for all you have done Cy.

From Belgium,

Sometimes you just need to walk away from the situation and regroup your thoughts. We have a feeling that the captain of the team has had to leave the field and now we are looking for a direction. Don’t be concerned though, we are big kids and we will work something out. I am pleased that you have considered this and come to the rightly reasoned decision that those closest to you are the ones that come first.

It is good that you are leaving the site open for the rest of us to natter on.

Every best wish for the future for you and your family.

Cyc.....I applaud you for your very reasonable approach toward making yourself and your family happy....I read your site everyday, sometimes more than once a day and I find that, like you, the mental distress is taking its toll on me as well..Although all I am is a repository of your thoughts.. I must admit that your friends, (and I would like to include myself among them)are very capable of keeping the discussion going, (even if I don't contribute much of anything to it....I'm a musician, not a wordsmith if thats any excuse)....I have come to be able to visualize each and everyone of them and I like them a great deal....I think that you are making the right choice.....Happiness and contentment come first or you'll be a ruined man and I'm sure no one of us wishes that fate for any of us or, for that matter, for any person of good will....May the spirit of nature reside within you for all of your days, for in that spirit is the positive that you are seeking I think...My most intense good will flows to you and your family.
Respectfully,
Franz

I understand, brother. Been there, done that! This blog is a great thing, but it's not worth your health or happiness. Like Belgium says, we're big kids, and we'll work something out. There will always be a place at the council fire for you and we will always hold you with the greatest love and respect.

Rest well, and be happy.

Cy,

I believe that I have mentioned how I feel about this subject. I think you have done your part. Small steps from many people is better than a single life dedicated to the message. I wish you well, and hope you will keep in touch.

As always,
Reality

Franz,

I believe I speak for all of us when I say you don't have to be a wordsmith to comment or discuss on this blog! All you need is something to say!

A lot of "musicians" used to put me down because I was a lowly drummer in a Rock & Roll Band! But a true musician knows that the drum and the human voice is the mother and father of all music. We speak from our hearts here and respect every voice that speaks, as long as it is not raised in threats against us. Join our circle and speak without fear of judgment. We will listen and understand.

Franz,

Stoney is right on this. When you have something to say, do so. Elequance is not mandatory here, content is what is important.

I second that! NO JUDGEMENT! (Unless you are a greasy troll.) That's the only way you can have intimacy. And, with intimacy, anybody can get along with anybody. Don't have to agree on everything, but respect the right to say whatever it is as long as it feels true to you at the time. You may, as I do, say it or write it and the more you think about it, you may determine yourself that you have changed your mind, but that's okay. So, anybody that has been quiet, go ahead and jump in. We're all Bozos on the bus, as it were. But it's a good bus...I feel privileged to share this space with all of you. We all get overwhelmed with the bad stuff sometimes and then someone comes along and reminds us of something to be amazed and grateful for. I find it inspiring, in the long run.

Lilac Here,

On accuracy: I often equate Blogging with parenting, I often asked my children, why is a baseball plyer who hits 40% a hero and a father who is right 73% of the time a bum.
I also told them I would answer any question they asked ( My answer was usually NO or ASK YOUR MOTHER ).

On showing respect to other posts, I agree , to disagree but not belittle other opinions.
Of course I retain the right to correct Reality just as Freeacre has the obvious right to correct Murph.

Cyclone I have always admired your ability to express your thoughts where ever they went and will still be looking forward to reading your comments whenever you feel it time to send one.

I am also still looking forward to reading the exchange of ideas that seems to flow unending on this blog.

Well, Lilac, just an aside to your baseball percentages...Does anyone else note the irony when talking heads on TV are bemoaning the fact that baseball players are taking "performance enhancing drugs"...and then they cut to a commercial for Viagra? Viagra, I once read, is the most perscribed drug in the country - even Medicaid pays for it. So, how can guys be outraged when athletes, with millions of dollars at stake, use performance enhancers? Beats me.
Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating that boys go out and take steroids...just have some sympathy for professionals that do.

Freeacre,

Amen to that! I could never equate the taking of a drug that causes a rockhard errection and anal seepage at the same time! It seems to me that one would tend to make the other useless! (Unless you ran with a REALLY freaky crowd)! Personally I require no such medication and even if I did, I'm not sure I would take it very much even then.

My wife and I have discovered in our years of wedded bliss that although sex is an important part of a marrige, it isn't the only thing! Besides, she does the laundry, and I've been "going commando" ever since I was one!

franz, wondered why the people that come to this site don't say more more often, its good to hear new voices and new ideas for the council fire, good to meet you brother.so fire away if you feel like it,always good to chew on something new, kicks open brain cells that have been sleeping with the spirit to the possibilities of ????????

freeacre if you don't stop calling me that name at the bottom of your first mention i'm going to tell mom on you so i don't end up with a complex and have to go back into therapy, shit i hate the rubber room but love thoes groovy little shots they give you to take away the sense of .......what the fuck did i just say?? o well

o,before i forget i will donate money so you can keep the site open if that is all it will take, i don't think they give these things away for free do they? am really ignorant about that.
i'm on s.s and not a whole lot of that but the way my hip is healing i will be back in the saddle in a month or two , yeaaaaaaa, and be able to help my brothers and sisters with their projects, sometimes i get barter sometimes green energy sometimes both sometimes minus anything except a good feeling heart in just being able to help someone with my expertize, hehe
so let us know what it will take to keep this beautiful council open or if it is to much maybe spirit across the sea could make a nest for us to play in and figure out the best way to accept surrender agreements from the present establishment. just because they fell off the teeertotter one to many times does not make them unable to play with us does it?

there are so many of us now that something will happen to keep us together and able to communicate with each other, right guys???

MAY BUSH WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, FLIP ON THE LIGHT AND FIND HIMSELF STAREING INTO EITHER END OF A WILD MONTANA BISON AND KNOW FROM WHENCE HE CAME AND FROM WHENCE HE SHALL GO.

PEACE ON THIS SWEET EARTH

reality,
someone asked me what did intelligence mean so i looked in the dictionary and the first thing said" the ability to learn or understand or to deal with with new or trying situations" personally i think that has absolutely nothing to do with intelligence, how about you? is there a much deeper meaning to the word and is there the possibility of going beond the word to the root of all things? the source as it were? which might include intelligence as a small piece of the great pie? not the whole pie.

From Belgium

Lilac.

On parenting, I am reminded of the old saw: “When I was 18 my father was the stupidest person on the face of the earth but when I was 21 I was amazed how much he had learned in the last three years”.

Montana Freeman,

Chatter is what men do in the bar; natter is what women do in the street.

Lilac,

You can correct, but children always have the option of ingoring their parents. I, personally, have found that it is best not to; obviously through a long bought of trial and error (mostly error).

MT,

You are correct as to the definition of intelligence, but it is a poor one. The third definition is listed as, "guided or directed by intellect."

Intellect is defined as, "the power of knowing as distinguished from the power to feel and to will : the capacity for knowledge" or "the capacity for rational or intelligent thought especially when highly developed."

This is a much better definition for intelligence, "that derived from the possesion, and use, of the intellect." You could also use, "anyone not like President Bush."

In word, and in use, I find that intelligence is secondary to many things, primarily wisdom.

MW defines intelligence as "the ability to perform computer functions" among other definitions. A computer itself is intelligent. I would be unlikely to call a computer wise. You, on the other hand, are both. That is why I enjoy talking with you as a friend.

Rats! It's taken me 6 months to find this kind of home only to see a HUGE and SAD event happening. Well, for better or for worse, I'd like to join up. Cyclone, sorry I arrived so late. In looking at the history of your site, I have to say: AWESOME. Peace and good health to you and yours. For everyone else: pleased to meet you. I am in need of your type of intellect or else I'm going to go crazy in the midst of all these sheep! No one to talk to (unless you speak "Survivor" or "American Idol"). My wife totally gets it (and is my partner in almost every sense of mindset and preparation) but she can only take so much of my ranting. So, all I can tell you is that my sleeves are rolled up. I think we have little time and a lot of work yet to be done.

Python,

Stick around! We ain't runnin' off nowhere!

Montana Freeman,

Your wise aplication of inteligence to pie is dead on! I will add only this:

Vision: The ability to percieve the pie.

Imagination: The ability to taste the pie mentaly without ever putting it in your mouth.

Skill: The ability to make a pie, and the knife with which to cut it.

Courage: The ability to see the pie as a pie and the strength to call it not a cake whether every body else is or not!

Compasion: The ability to share the pie with your neighbors who have no pie of there own.

Wisdom: The ability to describe the pie and to teach others in it's creation so the knowledge of pie is not lost.

All of these things are required for true inteligence! It cannot exist when even one is lacking!

Montana Freeman,

Yep! There's that many prisons in North Carolina! I've been a guest in four of them. They all suck!

As far as gitting into the bracelets, I did six months active for doing a burnout in a souped up Mustang! It seems that there are two things the police here can't stand! 1, Having a Ford faster than theirs! 2, Proving it!
