Whose Investigating Who?

George Boosh has called for a Justice Department inquiry to determine just who leaked the existence of the NSA spy program to the press. Another inquiry by Congress should soon begin to determine whether or not the NSA Spying program is legal, or just another example of "Boosh gone bad." Boosh, calling the very act of bringing to light the fact that he broke the law "harmful to the United States," has opened the door to the Congressional inquiry. Confused? You probably should be, this is a mess. Let's look at this and try to break it down.

Boosh stated the following. "The fact that somebody leaked this program causes great harm to the United States. There is an enemy out there. They read newspapers. They have attacked us before, they will attack us again if they can, and we're going to do everything we can to stop them." A mouthful, especially coming from a dimwit. And not terribly coherent. Too bad that Boosh doesn't read newspapers, or he would realize that he has a pissed off Congress and has some pissed off American citizens to deal with. This is approaching the theater of the absurd.

On the one hand, we have the Congress of the United States, elected by the people, investigating whether or not the President of the United States has broken the law by secretly wiretapping and reading the emails of American citizens. On the other, you have the very target of the Congressional investigation, Boosh himself, ordering his comrades in the Justice Department to find out who told us that the President may have broken the law.

Boosh call the leak "harmful." Yes, but harmful to who? I certainly don't believe that he finds it harmful to anyone but himself and the neocon agenda. "..they will attack us again if they can, and we're going to do everything we can to stop them." I can tell you who he is referring to when he says "we're going to stop them." It's not you, I, nor Congress. It's the same incestuous clan that allowed him to start this illegal spying effort in the first place.

In other words, "you're either for me or you're against me," and if you're against me, look out. No law is going to get in the way of what this Commander decides is best for you. Yes, this same President, who initially ran under the guise of "I'm a uniter, not a divider," and followed that with a social security plan that was based on the idea that "the American people are smarter than the government," has seemed to have changed his tune. The American people have gotten a lot dumber in his eyes it seems. At least when it comes to protecting ourselves.

This is the problem that is created when there is no real identifiable enemy. Just who is the "they" and the "them" that Boosh refers to? I know, the terrorists. But, just who are the terrorists? As part of the justification for the illegal wiretapping procedure, Boosh has been quoted as saying, "If somebody from al Qaeda is calling you, we'd like to know why." We've already determined who the "we" that he refers to are, the group that narrowly defined the law and decided that it was okay to wiretap American citizens. The group, that, by the way, that holds the minority view regarding this issue, the minority by a huge margin. So, have we determined that the "they" are al Qaeda? They are certainly a group of terrorists, I'll give Boosh that, and the quote seems to limit the "they" to al Qaeda. But, if the wiretapping was limited to "al Qaeda" members, there is no doubt that Booshco would have simply done the right thing and gone to the FISA Court for warrants, as the law requires. I highly doubt that any judge on the FISA court would refuse to issue a warrant for listening in on the conversations of a known al Qaeda operative. Since they chose to do an end run around the court, one has to assume that the "they" involve more than al Qaeda members.

So who else are the "they?" Are they the foreign fighters that have settled into Iraq to fight our occupation of that country? Are they the Iranians, or Syrians, just who the hell are they, Mr. Boosh? Could they be your favorite little fellows, the Saudi's? Or is it all Islamic people? No, it includes more people than those listed. This group of "they" includes the American people who believe that the Boosh policies are simply mad. It includes, me, everyone that reads this blog and believes any of it, and virtually everyone around the world that disagrees with this madman. We can all be wiretapped, have our emails read, have our constitutional rights trampled upon, be thrown into black sites, have virtually anything done to us that Boosh decides is necessary to protect us. Protect us from the boogeyman, the boogeyman created within the mind of a dangerous, mentally ill, dry drunk moron.

The real reason that Boosh is unhappy about the leaking of the NSA wiretap scandal is much larger than this act alone. This leak has opened the door to the revelation of the GST, a much larger group of "boogeyman fighting weapons," determined to be legal by Boosh and his small band of thugs. The GST gets to the very heart of the matter, what is and is not acceptable behavior for a government that is allegedly spreading democracy around the world. Let's look at what the GST really is.

Six days after 9/11, Boosh signed something, (I don't even know what to call it)presumably an executive order of some sort, giving him the power to pretty much do whatever he wanted without checking with Congress in advance and without oversight after the fact. I'm not real sure how that happens under our current form of government, but the Boosh administration has proven that it makes the rules up on the fly. This document ordered the intelligence communtity to create what would become the GST program, allowing for the largest and broadest authority given to intelligence agencies since the 1940's. There is a dispute as to whether or not Congress authorized this, but they certainly would not have if they knew what it was to fully entail. It involves the black sites, the transporting of prisoners from one country to another, torture, waterboarding, the very things that John McCain fought so long and hard to get legislation passed to stop. It involves giving certain clandestine groups the authorization to kill designated people anywhere at anytime. It involves getting authorization from more than 24 countries to use their land for secret CIA prisons, on which the Washington Post reported a while back. It involved a massive, secret transportation system to haul captives from one country to another, without anyone ever knowing who was being transported or where they were going. It even planned for what was to be done should a "suspect" die at the hands of their captors at one of the black sites. It also gets to the heart of the war between Boosh and the CIA.

The CIA has been down similar roads before, although probably never anything quite so sweeping as this. But, the CIA has also learned from history, and history shows that when things go bad, they are the ones who are blamed for it. Booshco has been the leader in this area. Since Boosh decided to use only a handful of lawyers to rubberstamp his authority to do whatever he wants, the CIA is a little wary of what might occur should something go wrong and a broader group of legal people become involved. They are concerned that they could be prosecuted for crimes, to which the "Boosh go-ahead" might not stand up under later legal scrutiny. And it shouldn't.

I have been an investigator for many years and I do not consider myself naive. I have always known that things go on behind the scenes, things that we never hear of, and thankfully so. A government cannot survive in a world this dangerous without some ugly things happening, and it is better that the public at large not hear about many of these things. That is why in the past, there has always been a buffer between the President of the United States and certain government activities. Call it plausible deniability. But Boosh doesn't seem to care about things like this. Through sheer arrogance, an in your face attitude, the "smirk" if you will, he has removed the buffer. The day that he admitted the existence of the NSA program, he opened his entire administration up to questions that probably should not be asked, but now have to be. You are witnessing incompetence at its finest, folks. I said it before and I meant it. I'll say it again. I would not trust George Boosh to cut my grass. He is a fool. And he is the leader of the free world. We'll dig deeper into the GST, this is merely an appetizer used to make a point. The point of what serious trouble we, as a country, are in, due to the incompetence of our leadership.

I mentioned earlier that this is approaching the theater of the absurd. I actually think it is beyond "approaching," I think we are there. What happens over the next few weeks will tell us, the American people, if we are on our own or if we actually have someone inside our government looking out for us. If the Congress allows this to be quietly swept under the rug, or begins negotiations with this President to come to some agreement on how to skirt the law to "keep us safe," we will know that they are all in it together and we are on our own. On the other hand, if Congress chooses to remove the blank check from the grips of this maniac, then maybe we have a fighting chance. It is up to Congress to determine whether or not this has gone far enough, or too far. If they choose otherwise, they must realize, as one reader wrote, the American people will realize that they are out of options and have nothing to lose by standing up for the principles upon which this country was founded. If that is the path that is chosen, it will get ugly in a hurry.
