New post from Murph and Freeacre. An appeal.

A SMALL PART OF THE FUTURE

I have been sitting in front of my keyboard for some time now trying to decide how to approach this subject. So far I can’t come up with some clever introduction, so I’m just going to jump into it.

The subject today is this blog. It appears to me that we are at some kind of intersection, decision point, whatever we want to call it. Something is about to change. First, a bit of history and my perspective.

This blog has been in existence since November 2005. What started out by Cyclone as a political exposure and commentary on political happenings at the time has morphed into a lot more than that. Our discussions have wandered all over the place. The blog has, overall, attracted few continuous readers, but the ones that do frequent this site have formed some interesting bonds. We are continuously sharing information and personal perspectives on a wide range of subjects. I know that for Freeacre and myself, a significant amount of time every day is spent either reading what has been written at the site, following links from comments, doing some of our own nosing around to contribute to a particular subject, and of course periodically writing posts, and this doesn’t include the time spent with emails back and forth with the regular readers. Both Freeacre and I have commented on several occasions that we consider this site unique and having value to both of us and I surmise, for you reading this also. In the last year, Cyclone has had (for what I understand is a variety of reasons) less and less time to devote to the site. I suspect this situation is not going to change any time soon.

I expect that in the next year, you are going to see a lot of sites that are devoted to commentaries somewhat similar to Cyclones site fold up and go away. This is going to be the result of several factors; Burn out by the authors, Government intervention, Changing circumstances by the blog initiators, lack of readers, the list can be quite extensive. It is the same for why blogs are started, a whole variety of reasons. I do expect the government to get more involved in web sites that are critical of the government. How this will be manifested is open to speculation. So, in reality, sites critical of the shenanigans of elected and unelected officials I expect to be taken down under duress.

So, here is our particular situation. Neither Freeacre nor myself are prolific enough writers to keep even a post a week going, and even if we did, being critical of the government might bring the wrath of Homeland Security down on us, force the site to register as a lobby, or any other sort of limiting regulation since of course we would be contributing the perception that your either for us or for the world wide terrorists, which of course is not the case, but we aren’t dealing with people who take criticism easily. A classic tautology. So we might just have this to deal with somewhere in the future, with or without Cyclone’s contribution.

Which means that to have something meaningful and timely, there is by necessity, going to have to be contributing writers for the site besides Freeacre and Murph, and on a steady basis. If we don’t have fairly steady input, it is going to get pretty clumsy in the comments. If in a week, we have 40-70 comments, how many would there be in 2-3 weeks of the same post. We start having much over 70 or so comments, there is going to be a lot of wading around in old material that for sure is not going to attract new readers and will make further comment contribution clumsy. I am sure many of you have been to sites where they have significantly more than a 100 comments, it becomes very difficult to go through all of them, and then to add more thought on a subject. There are other formats that would make that more viable, but I have no idea how to do that, and I suspect that it would cost money, and that, I sure am not in a position to deal with anyway. I have been to forums as part of a site that may have over 1000 comments but they are catalogued

So, from all of this above, I conclude that to keep things moving at a sustainable pace and keep interest going, there is gong to have to be several more contributing writers that are able to write in a manner that is fairly consistent with how we have been doing it to this point. We are going to need reasonable documentation, (not necessarily exhaustive research) for assertions, reasonably stated positions and thoughtful analysis. I know that Freeacre and I do not have contacts outside of the web that can validate information I would present for most subjects that deal with the government. Cyclone had those kinds of contacts. So what we would be doing is summarizing a lot of what we researched on the web.

For myself, I have contributed about 50 posts to the site. I find that except for spurious moments, I am running out of new information to present for discussion, running out of fresh perspectives on situations, events and concepts. You cannot imagine the admiration I have for the writers that can continue to do this on a steady basis, for very long periods of time.

We are at another turning point. Some decisions need to be made, and because of the nature of the steady readers on this site, I think it needs to be taken up at a council fire. Aho.

Okay, now it’s My Two Cents…

Freeacre

Our venerable leader, Cyclone, has contacted us and told us this morning that he is sick once again and also swamped with work from his two jobs, both of which take him out of town. He is planning to purchase a lap top computer so that he can contribute to the blogsite from wherever his jobs take him as he has time. But, he’s not going to have much time. He’s asked us to appeal to all of us regulars to keep the site going.

So, that’s what we are doing. Murph and I will contribute posts as they occur to us and for which we have the wherewithal. But, we need your help if we are to post things regularly enough to keep the site viable and interesting.

A friend of mine sent me an e-mail message with a quote from Bill Moyers:

"I mean, think about it. Other than the war
in Iraq, the Katrina disaster, the deficit, the
CIA leak, torture, stopping stem cell research,
homeland security, global warming and
undercutting science, we've yet to really feel
the negative effects of the Bush administration."
-- Bill Moyers

These are the Ides of March. It’s still a very pivotal period with lots of implications for our country and our selves. I know that I have come to rely on this site and its people for emotional support as well as information with which to prepare and come to terms with events. I would like to see it continue as long as it serves us or as long as it can be maintained.

So, the question is: what do you think? And, would you contribute to posting to help keep it going?

That’s it, My Friends. We are looking forward to your thoughts.

Lol. What we were told is that Cy exposed himself to numbinmg damp cold wind for several hours and came down sick from it At least so far, no indication of immediate life threatening or incapacitating ailment. Just over worked and sick to boot, probably with viral infection from tension, and overwealming body defenses.

Ras,

We will be in contact about this.

From Belgium,

I have probably posted about 10% of what Murph has done. This was mainly to keep things going whilst Cy was taken away from the blog with other things and I was always careful not to be too intrusive because I was always conscious that it was his blog and after all he has an inside track and an authoritive but not authoritarian style. The subjects I have tackled have been away from mainstream American politics, I am not American and live in Europe so there are plenty of others who are better able to do this than me. Responses to these efforts have ranged from, excellent to divisive, but ‘that will do me’ as the saying goes. We are not here to stroke each others prejudices. I for one to not want to see the demise of the Real Deal, after all who wants to wear a t-shirt to a broken link. On a personal note, the computer does seem to have taken over a bit; it is just so damned interesting but other things that have taken more of a back seat need to be picked up again especially as the longer days approach. This is going to be more in the sense of adjusting the balance. I too am not a prolific writer but am willing to put the occasional post together. I keep up with events but again, I am not the best person to review US Politics. If it is considered that the Real Deal can move into broader areas rather than register as a lobby then I could finish the abandoned piece on vaccines, it is all I have in my bag at the moment. If it is not relevant then I really don’t mind. It would be interesting to hear other opinions on which direction or change of emphasis the Real Deal should take.

I'm in the process of researching something for my blog, but I'll give it to "The Real Deal" when I get in finished.

I had to toss out the piece I had been working about the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed's Building 18 after I got scooped by the mainstream media! Of course I don't really give a rat's ass if the word comes from me or them, as long as the word gets out!

I should have done either this week, or early next, depending on how successful I am at dragging my youngest off the keyboard! I've got to be VERY CARFUL in this, as that the little shit probably has access to half the monetary institutions in The United States right now! (sigh)

Cyclone,

Drink some green tea! NOT the shit that comes in the bottle that has the sugar content of The Island of Cuba! Get the "Celestial Seasonings" tea bags and sweeten it with honey!

Honey is bacteriacidal, and baceria-static (kills bacteria, and bacteria can't live in it or on it).

The green tea itself has LOTS of antioxidants in it and will help you get rid of the flu bug.

Don't drink too much, or it will give you a roaring case of the shits,(which I discovered the hard way!), which in your condition would be like offering a drowning man a glass of water!

Kick back, and take it easy! Burn one down for Montana Freeman, and me! It might not help, but it damn-sure can't hurt!

I'll be burning sage tonight and praying for healing energies to be sent your way! I'm sure Montana Freeman will be doing the same!

I think we'd be happy to have all the posts on whatever subjects any of us is interested in at the time. I, too, will be spending more time outside soon and working in the garden, etc., now that I don't have an outside job. But, I figure I could write about lessons learned and it could be considered re-location information. Lately, we are getting experience in local rules and changes regarding ground water that will be worthy of a post, I think. The only thing new in the household at present is that we have been watching so many nature documentaries on TV since we 've been relying on Netflix after having cut off the satellite dish, that our dog has begun to watch the tube. In fact, the bird sits on the dog's head as she lunges every once in awhile at the tv screen to go after a prairie dog or some damn thing that Richard Attenborough is going on about. It's pretty funny to watch, but I have to keep cleaning the screen for nose prints all the time... oi vey.

Hey Cy, i to will burn sage and invoke the great spirit to watch over you my brother, also that the healing is profound and that you return to health soon.
Stoney is right the medicine of big pharma is the joke of the world. All sickness can be traced to imbalance and to rebalance is right up the great spirits ally. i have had this happen many times and have had instantaneous healing when i thought i was going to die.
The power of the plants on this good earth are awesome,so not knowing your knowledge of these things that is where i would go first, a good homeopath will set you stright and keep you there if you have the time or energy to do this.i have researched this area for many years of my life and alternative medicine is ancient and works.Cleansing herbs, sweats, especially sweats, pure water, lots of it,organic food really important. Most anything as processed by humans is mostly poison to the human body, there is no life energy in a box off a grocery shelf.
It sounds like you have had a really rough go of it Cy,we at this site honor you and give up our thoughts and prayers to the creator that have made all of us that you be made whole, and that your life be seasoned with the sweetness that comes about by realizing how much you are loved by the ones
that come to live in your house of goodness.
Hear us o Great Spirit,we are thankful for your gifts to your children, and rejoice in the certain knowledge that we are one in the Spirit and that we are Love itself.

Cy, Take care of yourself. The world is a much better place when you are well enough to give your opinion of it.

I will try to come up with a few things for the blog. I have a few interesting projects which have been taking up a whole bunch of my time, but I think I may be able to fit in a few things.

--------------

As far as that blow-hard Gould, I have more than a few words for him. His comments, and others like it, show exactly why the GOP (and its loosely veiled Republicrat twin on the other right) no longer represent America.

I would venture to state that the VAST majority of Americans do not agree with him. Americans can be ignorant and lazy at times. We can even be a little less than understanding than others. I would be willing to stand up to anyone and say, however, that the majority (I would guess over 90%) are not overbearing assholes who want to silence anyone who does not support their vision of manifest destiny.

This idiot has no clue what this country wants, and doesn't even care. If he wants to talk about how "treasonous" this "Communistic" leftist sounds, he may want to consider the fact that the article echos, in in its content, another leftist, Thomas Paine.

Maybe we should make him happy by having a big book burning, and eliminating such anarchistic works as Common Sense, Poor Richards, and maybe even the treaty of Tripoli. I mean, why would we want such un-american works as the Famous Gettysburg Address, the Sleeping Giant, and Washingtons parting Speech. I say we bring in Hitlers speach to the Socialist party, and Stalins welcome to the Brothers. They have a muchg better ring to the likes of the Great American Leaders Like Bush.

Kiss MY Ass, Gould.

There is a group of neighbors in the back yard around a camp fire tonight and many things came about at this council fire.

Well, I must say,

That is one elaborate hoax...

I even went so far as finding a link to Gould's website (now suspiciously missing) to find the source of that post. It was only after noticing that Gould's picture on his website was suspisioucly that of Ambramhoff that I looked up his Bio.

It appears that the Crook grandson of the infamous Crook Railroad tycoon died a few years ago (explains why no one threw a fit about it being posted everywhere.

... And I was really thinking that I found a GOP member that would finally tell the truth. Was that you, Vidal?

Something weird happened yesterday. I think it was some kind of omen. I was on my way to the rehearsal for the concert I was in last night, just driving down the road like always. Then something on the shoulder caught my eye. It was a vulture, standing there looking around. There was no kill there, nothing at all but bare pavement. And here was this vulture, standing there on the side of the highway calmly looking around at all the traffic. It wasn't looking at me, but at the traffic in general. Still though, it sent a shiver down my spine.

Cyclone, Murph, Freeacre, et al ...

Although I haven't posted on this since last year I read it frequently. I wish I could post more but ...

I suffer from the same syndrome as so many today, though - I'm overloaded with work (but thankful to have work, at least for now), on top of taking classes - simultaneously doing graduate engineering and MBA classes so I just can't muster the energy for other stuff.

But that's just part of it - the other part is that there is SO MUCH to say about alarming events that appear on a daily basis, that are so clear to those of us that are paying attention and not filtering out the dissonant, but we are all getting really fatigued trying to get people to listen when they just can't shift out of their current world view. And preaching to the choir ceases to gratify after a while.

So I go about my job and my studies like nothing is going to change, while at the same time learning to grow food, keeping a bug-out bag, and starting to look for other places to go once some elder family members pass on.

If this site fades away just keep in mind that all things are transitory in the Universe, and it's fading is not a tragedy, it's success is that it happened at all, and for a while at least worked to forge some unions and some sense of community amongst far-flung individuals.

So keep it going however long, and in whatever manner is possible, but if it passes on, let it do so, because we're all passing on before too long, and the blessing/curse we will take with us, if there is a place to take it to, is that we lived in these "interesting times".

Good luck to all.

Reality,

Are you saying that the Gould post was just satire? The original site it was posted on was Tom Pains Corner. The owner is Jason Miller and he says that every negative comment on the post resulted in another email rant to Jason from Gould. I don't recogize the character in the photo shooting a bird that accompanyied the posting on another site. Under the name of Gould, there were pretty hard comments about the comments at Jason's site. If this is indeed a really elaborate satire, it seems to be pursued rather well.

Interestingly, every point that Gould put into the original rant I have heard and read before, not as well connected or put together and not every point at once, but all of it there. That is what first led us to suspect that it might be satire.

If you find more about it, please let us know. No matter what, it was a well done piece of writing and far better done than I would have expected.

Carl in pa,
Nice to hear from you again, Carl. Yes, we'll keep the site going as long as it's viable. It if ends, then at least we'll have learned how to reach out and maybe we can get more localized councils organized in another form. And we've made friendships that will endure, I am certain. So, it ain't over by a long shot. Sounds like you are doing all the right things - good for you.
ras - don't know about the vulture. If it spoke to you, then it spoke to you. Got to admit it is a rather good metaphor. Maybe there are all sorts of "vultures" observing what will soon be carrion and how they are going to deal with it...take a look at cryptogon today. The top financial brokerage houses (Goldman Sachs, Merril Lynch, etc.) are so shaky that they are rated just above junk status. Yikes. It it all crashes, it won't be vultures to look out for, it will be more like Jurassic Park.
In fact, we could almost see our corporate creation of a culture as a sort of Jurassic Park in many ways. Trying to control nature and in the process upsetting all the natural balances. Creating an artificial world of abominations that go wrong and turn on us. Humm..maybe I'll rent the movie again.

I sent this Gould prick an email directly to his inbox! (I don't believe in fucking around!) I even sent him my full name and address! So far no reply!

All I can come up with is that he's some kind of comedian who's trying to be funny, or a real right-wing-nut who has been to college and taken a creative writing class or two. Either way his Nazi diatribe, while well-written lacks a great deal of any real thought. (like most wingnuts!)

I especially found the part about leaving The United States if you don't agree with The Republican Party disturbing! If all the wingnuts had done this during The Clinton Administration, we wouldn't have Bush now!

If it's satire, it sucks! Satire should reflect on the character points of the person being satirised. Neocans and hillbillies don't have the sort of writing skils displayed.

If it's real, then it sucks! No true American could ever think this way unless the person in question was completely mad, or motivated by an agenda of some sort.

I see this clown as the lowest manner of troll! Like "Johnnyboy", "Conservasarus" or one of the others that used to pop up on "Alternet" from time to time. Ignoring them is the best procedure, but I like to rip on them! I can't help it!

I, too, think that Gould III is a satirical invention, much like Borat or Father Guido Sarduci from Saturday Night Live, or even Archie Bunker.
What is also interesting is our own responses. Personally, I was envisioning his wife slitting his throat in the night and his maid cooking up his fatass into a large batch of tamales.... not exactly peace and love and forgiveness, as the Murph-man pointed out to me. lolo

Having "visited" here for the past few months, and enjoyed what has been written, could I recommend a website.
Just my opinion, but the writing and thoughts here seem to be similar to what many others are thinking: End of the empire? Abuse of the planet? Madness in the white house? Collapse of the military in America? And so on.....
"The peace train.org", is a website run by americans, which is a collection of 100 plus assorted american writers and activists, and "others".
The site not only posts daily news and comments, but helps co-ordinate protests and events against the wars, big oil, and insane politicians.
The website welcomes any articles, from any persons, regardless of race, color, creed, political orientation, anything goes, as long as it isn`t abusive!!!
